Editing a manuscript today (part of a big global survey with follow up interviews) on doctoral student experience in the pandemic and struck (not for the first time) by the longer term psychological impacts of lockdown coping strategies on students, supervisors and administrators. Beau Travail wasn’t what I thought he would choose either. I haven’t seen it since my twenties and it is has haunted my inner eye since. 12/10 highly recommended stands up to decades of perspective.

@Unabart haha that’s a pretty good review - it’s not going to appeal to everyone but if you’ve ever watched a documentary about the Foreign Legion it’s actually bizarrely accurate (as the Legion itself is bonkers).The bass player in the jazz orchestra I played in as a teenager ran away from home to join the Legion.Apparently they hated it until they saw it (and both spied on and disrupted its making, thinking it was intended to show that legionnaires were gay).It is…very French.
