@Ricardus oh no, concepts are pretty important. But I also think it's important to recognize that our mental model of who someone is happens to be conceptual. We are in flux all the time, gaining new hobbies, losing old hobbies, etc. There really isn't anything static to point to and say that this is who someone is.If we traded our arms, would we still be our Selves or different Selves?

@Ricardus Oh definitely. People identify as things all the time, but unfortunately it's a very potent illusion. Our attachment to that illusion causes lots of suffering, usually by feeling like we are the thing we identify with even though it's impossible. Sports fans are an excellent example of this.

@Ricardus It's quite a bit more nuanced. There is State's Rights, the idea that a state should be able to choose what's best for itself. Then there's the symbol State's Rights, viewed as the Republican dog whistle. Both of these things exist simultaneously using the same symbol, State's Rights, because concepts and symbols can mean different things to different people simultaneously. There is no correct or incorrect, only different subjective interpretations.

@Ricardus I'm not so sure. Seems like a pretty extreme position to take on the topic. Honestly it should have been legislated into law many years ago but instead we relied on the court to legislate the issue which is not really what the court is for in the first place. Dems sitting on their hands is pretty problematic in this scenario.
