Here's a new back yard visitor. Neighbour has chickens, thought one might have gone walkies. Nope, it's a baby brush turkey (which is a misnomer, they are macropodes, not actual turkeys). Usually seen in the upper mountains, new here in the mid mtns. They're adorable until they grow up and all the cute wears off. #bluemountains

@moira ...but if you're hearing bzzt on FM, they ARE talking. DStar, P25, C4FM digital voice... which I find to be fairly useless. You get more radio art info from analogue FM voice. You can tell when a station is weak into a repeater or if the repeater is weak to you. You can even tell the cause of a weak sig eg mobile picket fencing. What you DO get from digital voice is chat rooms connected to far flung stations who didn't send a signal a great distance. May as well be internet.

@mathaetaes There's no particular rhyme or reason to 4 pin mic connector pinouts. However, you can bet on the PTT line being a pull to gnd and the mic audio being constantly connected because running mic audio through a switch is a good way to cause problems with durability. It's not a lot of trouble to open the mic body and take off the connector backshell to trace them out. @ai6yr

@ai6yr I've always loved the Drake rigs. Was never able to afford one back in me yoof but I did manage a couple of Swan power lumps, SW-240 was a ripper, 240W PEP SSB. Also a Swan 350, 350W, who needs a linear? And it looks like a Drake!

@ai6yr I'm still on the hunt for a 500CX, 550W PEP sweep tube wunderhammer. The sweep tube outputs were not durable, but they were cheap and available in the tube tester at the drugstore (remember those? yes? you're old.)
