@baldur The problems with AI and data leakage remind me of a story my driving instructor told me about 20 years ago. He had a pupil who couldn't read but was determined to get his driving licence. So the pupil studied the exam and memorised, for every possible question, what the picture looked like and where the answers should be marked.The pupil aced the test without knowing what any of the questions meant.

@Wolven in their defence, much of this audience isn't appalled by the terms "dictator" or "fascist" either.Nevertheless your point still stands: much of reporting and communication needs to become clearer and more explicit, because we can't agree on a baseline of common knowledge and common sense anymore.

@rooster Giving up on politics is handing over power to those who want to dismantle democracy. Build communities, but use them to give people hope that not all is lost and encourage them to keep fighting.Trump may go unpunished, but that doesn't mean he will seize power, and that the Constitution can't be amended to prevent this from repeating in the future. There is always hope until you give it up.

@richpuchalsky @vetehinen @futurebird Mastodon (the software, which is OSS) has a share of around 70% of the fediverse. That's a lot, but a significantly different situation than with bluesky, because there is already an ecosystem besides Mastodon.Mastodon.social is the biggest Mastodon instance, but it holds still less than 30% of the Mastodon user base (less than 20% of the fediverse). If the server would be shut down, you could feel that, but most of the community would be still here.
