@tomjennings @nixCraft I remember in 1982, four of us ported Unix System III to a General Automation machine that I think/hope never saw the light of day.This machine was quite weird: the stack grew upward, and it was word-addressed with some brain-damaged way to get at the bytes.One of us wrote the C compiler backend; two did the kernel; and I was responsible for porting all the user-space programs except the C compiler. I had to debug a few programs that assumed the stack grew downward.

I counted 132 people attending the protest today (2025-04-05) in Ridgecrest, California, on the sidewalk at the town's main intersection. There was a lot of supportive honking of horns and thumbs up from vehicles driving by.Ridgecrest is a red town, with a population of about 28,000 people, in a very red county (these are the people who elected Kevin McCarthy as their representative).
