@mathlover @Popehat masthead dot social has a bad reputation, apparently the people running it have some crank affiliations. It was a moderately popular migration destination in the initial reaction to what Elon was doing to Twitter, and then there was more exposure about that particular instance and some backlash.

@stux There's got to be a way to get people angry that the Magnetic North Pole has been moving steadily away from the US for more than 150 years.

@lowqualityfacts The one time I ever played soccer on Astroturf was an amazing experience: plastic blades were almost frictionless, unless your cleats gripped the mesh underneath, which was completely without give: your foot might at any moment become irretrievably locked in place, whatever speed and direction your body was moving with, practically guaranteeing your ankle would at least be sprained.

@mmasnick When you consider the amount of the purchase price that was a bank loan to Twitter, his estimate - which seems absurdly high - places its net value not much above zero.

@mmasnick Any question starting "Does Elon Musk not understand ..." can be immediately cut off. No, he doesn't. Whatever the topic is, he is certain he understands it better than anyone else, and he doesn't understand it really at all.

@maxkennerly The best part is after this claim about supposedly unfair, prejudicial adjectives, the next paragraph ends by labeling those ethicists skeptical of Thomas's behavior as "cherry-picked".

@alex The strong implication at the end of the article is that his Discord friends expect him to flee the country. Also, they say they haven't been contacted by the Feds (and pledge to keep silent until his fate is resolved). Assuming they genuinely haven't been contacted by the feds, either the feds are already very close to the guy without needing to talk to them, or the feds are WAY behind on this one.

@rudepundit during Delta, when vaccines and good masks were easily available and the only questions were whether people were using them and whether they were being *encouraged* to use them, Florida's death toll was simply appalling. Communities like mine, that had essentially universal vaccination and a mask mandate, were rewarded with incredibly few COVID deaths, at exactly the same time.

@thesiswhisperer Notably, when you point out Elon Twitter is "paying Nazi, misogynistic 'influencers'": apparently it's a hand-picked set of influencers that is being paid. It's not even just that Twitter now is a place for Nazi and misogynist influencers to flourish, it's that Elon is deliberately hand-picking Nazis and misogynists and throwing money at them.

@ZachWeinersmith I read a lot of mythology around that age, and definitely would have read Jewish mythology if I'd found any, but didn't.On the other hand, at the same time I really enjoyed the Chelm stories. Obviously not at all epic, but she might like them? And some even echo some mythologies (specifically trapping the moon in a bucket, which a simpleton of Chelm does and also Raven does, as I recall, rather differently).
