I have a Raspberry Pi 3 connected to a RTL-SDR tuner stick, monitoring 1090 MHz for aircraft ADS-B and feeding to ADS-B Exchange and a commercial flight tracking site.I'm close enough to Michigan Stadium to hear the planes going over on game day, but my ADS-B receiver doesn't track them. ADS-B Exchange is tracking one flight, and it says the data source is "ADS-R or UAT".Is this the 978 MHz band in use? If so, and if anyone's listening to that, do I need a second Pi or just a second radio?

Listening to 198 kHz, BBC Radio 4 on long wave, from a KiwiSDR from #VY2HF in Stratford, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Transmitter is in Droitwich, UK. Signal S7.The #KiwiSDR has a Wellbrook ALA-1530 Loop antenna.(I'm not sure how to look up the great circle distance between two points, but it's far!)Radio 4 is carrying BBC World Service programming at this hour, "Are workers back in the driving seat?", about unionization and the gig economy. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w3ct33np

Opening Day of the 2022 MLB baseball season!I've been using web-based #SDR to do DX'ing of AM stations that have baseball broadcasts. The few #WebSDR systems out there (specifically K3FEF) can support lots of simultaneous listeners; the many #KiwiSDR systems out there have a lot of geographic diversity, to pull in weak stations that just happen to be nearby. New this year is #SDRPlusPlus on Android, which with an Airspy HF+ and a #Youloop antenna is very portable.

anyone have any good #SSTV stories or a gentle introduction to th mode? I have the "Robot36" Android app which is a decoder, and I see a bot at @aregsstv posting decodes from 14.230 MHz and 7.171 MHz. I also know the ISS sends out SSTV sometimes.thanks for any hints73 de Ed W8EMV

Is there a working APRS to Twitter, APRS to Mastodon, or APRS to email gateway? The docs I have found so far suggest YES for APRS to email, via EMAIL-2, but the docs are also old.It would be great to be able to post a message here via RF!

@michael From this #phoronix post, the kernel scroll back code in FBCON and VGACON disappeared circa #Linux kernel 5.9https://www.phoronix.com/news/Linux-5.9-Drops-Soft-Scrollbackcirca late 2020. I suppose (?) you could try to back port those patches but it seems like an awful lot of work. Or run a pre-5.9 kernel - 5.4 is LTS until Dec, 2025, that puts you on something like Ubuntu 20.04.

Setting up #xmpp on the https://xmpp.mastodon.radio XMPP server. You need a mastodon.radio account to join through that system.Nice QSO just now with @M0YNG and @W8HF there (in the wee hours of daylight savings time morning; gotta get some more sleep).I installed Beagle IM for #macOS from https://github.com/tigase/beagle-im and @tigase - setup was quick and easy. Siskin IM is the iOS client related.Now to see which of the rest of the federated net has XMPP based chat networks.

@misty Here's a staff directory at UWRFhttps://www.uwrf.edu/Library/StaffDirectory.cfmPick a name and email or call? I see a "Electronic Resources and Systems Librarian", or you could always start with the director.[ #UWRF #library #digipres ]

One thing to do with a #FlipperZero is listen for weather stations broadcasting on 433.92 MHz. Picked up one on my bike ride home, alas I do not have a good time stamp on the reading yet so I do not yet know where it was. #f0 #WarBiking #wx #BikeTooter

@vees I would totally use a DVB-T tuner stick in a dedicated install. The Flipper runs on a built-in battery and is small so it is very practical to carry.

I'm sure I've tried rtl_433 before, but looking at it again I'm super impressed by the lengthy list of over-the-air data protocols it decodes for weather stations, tire pressure measurement sensors, energy meters, water leak detectors, and so on and so on.https://github.com/merbanan/rtl_433 or `brew install rtl_433`Now, to dig out my RTL-SDR tuner stick + suitable antenna to try this out, and compare results with my #FlipperZero .tnx @vees [ #rtl433 #rtlsdr #wx #f0 ]

2 meters is long from Michigan to Ohio again this morning - characteristic mixing on the input on the Ann Arbor #N8DUY repeater, and tx from what we call the "Tiffin repeater" was clear and copyable from here in Ann Arbor. VHF propagation map https://aprs.mennolink.org/map8am net on #N8DUY had an early bird edition that was fine, but by 0815 we were having troubles.I did not catch any call signs from "Tiffin". Time to program the HT to see if I can open up that machine from here.cc @W8HF

@stephen Nice! Looking forward to seeing this in the field.I noticed that the CATS protocol uses a 5-byte encoded Unix timestamp, with an epoch of January 1, 1970. I *think* this gets you past the year 2038 problem (which it would be an issue if you only had 4 bytes) but you might want to comment in the standard on the date range supported and the conversion to/from a 64 bit (8 byte) timestamp.

@stephen Can you find some examples of devices for sale that would do what you want, and then work backwards from those data sheets to see what components they use?Or maybe use a more specialized search tool than Mouser, I see this page from EverythingRF (= RF only components site) that seems to be in line with your needshttps://www.everythingrf.com/search/microwave-rf-amplifiers/filters?page=1&country=global&stype=;Power%20Amplifier;&sstandards_supported=;UHF%20Band;

@stephen I am sure that EverythingRF is not the only "find me RF components" site - e.g RF Cafe has this page of component search siteshttps://www.rfcafe.com/references/parts-search-sites.htmplus some perhaps entertaining old-school (1999 era) web design

Another bicycle mobile QSO on 2 meters with Mo #KE8BZJ , this time from EN82eg. We used the #W8FSA repeater again, and Parker Mill County Park is just across the river from St Joe's so that was a very easy repeater to hit.It's about an hour's ride round trip. Christmas Day very warm and yesterday's fog had lifted. The entrance to Parker Mill has the distinctive odor of the water treatment plant nearby, but by the time you get to the mill location the air is sweet again.cc @w8emv@toot.bike

Are there any useful guides out there to #ARRL radiograms? The ones I have seen were sufficiently obscure as to be unhelpful.Thinking out loud, about sending a 'gram to members of the ARRL board about their latest terrible decision making - see this from @kb6nu https://www.kb6nu.com/the-arrl-board-is-at-it-again/ Radiograms may be the correct medium.I don't see a numbered radiogram for political disagreements though.ARL FIFTY SIX DECISIVE BLUNDER ENDANGERING THE HOBBYhttps://ema.arrl.org/arrl-numbered-radiograms/#radiogram
