@futurebird not sure if you want the answers to your questions, but at least for the magical perfect cooking is due to... well... magic:https://medium.com/0xmachina/cooking-with-magnetism-for-real-f4ff8b1dc51a

@futurebird it's pretty bad, especially when you consider that everything we can observe only accounts for 5-10% of the matter in the universe

@stux how's this for a cursed sentence?"Kliger, whose Cornell graduate father is an attorney for Experian, appears happy to monetize his DOGE experience: he has made the entry about DOGE on his Substack for $12-a-month subscribers only."

@discatte I had a cracked version of this game way back when. The copy protection scheme was one of the more common ones of the time - when you start it, you're asked a question whose answer can be found in the manual that came with the game. This game showed a picture of a golf course and asked which one it was. In the cracked version you could type "butt" or "fart" or "imcool" or whatever else a 7 yo would think was awesome.Good times.

@futurebird if read-only mode counts, I have a Wyse WY-55 serial terminal next to my main workstation that scrolls my timeline all day... I use it to keep up with goings on in those awkward times when you need to wait 20 seconds for some command to complete or whatever...

@tomjennings @vga256 it's quite a trap - I'm sure it still happens these days, but coming up there were always local biz folks with a "great software idea" that just needed a developer to make it. for every reasonable idea (hey, what if you could book an appointment on a website?) there were ten bad ones (had someone try to pitch me on software to recognize clothing and consumer goods on TV shows and let you find them to buy online - this was in the late 90s).the promise of cutting out the unhelpful non-visionary dev (how hard could the software part be?) and replacing them with A I is unfortunately too hard for some folks to pass up - finally! someone who won't just say "implementing your idea is effectively NP Hard, and we currently have no way to solve it in the amount of time left in the universe as we understand it"
