@tuxcrafting but once we start implementing everything within emacs with elisp (wm, de, word processers, etc.) wouldn't we be back to square one?

@tuxcrafting i mean once we would boot into emacs-the-kernel, and port all our needs into it, wouldn't it just turn into a lisp-flavored linux?i'm probably just rambling here...

@okl yup, i've found kubuntu laggy for no apparent reason while the same laptop works fine with KDE on arch and debian. No idea why

these are curiously typically pleorama instances... is there a process to request a unlinking of a instance in the federation?

@quad @normandy @tuxcrafting @wolf480pl why can't we just use current system locally and then just use UTC when conversing with people from other countries? we keep following conventions while getting rid of any confusions.

@wolf480pl @quad @normandy @tuxcrafting i think this is definite possibility, for example, all our countries have different currencies but when interacting globally, it defaults into comparison in U.S. dollars.

@wolf480pl @quad @normandy @tuxcrafting also, almost every non-american regularly makes cost comparisons in dollars, i.e., they know the relatively current exchange value to USD and can habitually make this calculation. so, I think it would actually be trivial for everyone to adopt UTC, they'd only need to memorize a static calculation depending on where they live.

@jk i just watched a python documentary the other day where the dropbox ceo was featured.i found it interesting that the reason given by the film as to why dropbox was important to the story was that its backend and frontend client were both written in python, which the film itself found astonishing. there were no technical justifications given other than “wow that’s crazy they did that!”.

are there any non-cloudflare ways to achieve the same end-result as cloudflare tunnels? i.e. i want to access self-hosted apps on a cloud vm from my pc/phone with minimal security risks (the blocker with tailscale was that you can't have a local VPN and tailscale turned on at the same time)

@tomasino thanks for the suggestion! it doesn't look like my vpn service (mullvad) provides static ips to try this out though :blobugh:
