@FinchHaven@sfba.social @aral@mastodon.ar.al what on earth makes you say they are raking in shit tons of money? That doesn't sound too likely for a team with the grand total of two full-time deveopers (to be increased to three now) so do you have something to back that with?

@wjmaggos@liberal.city you're probably asking too early, I've seen basically no high profile ones (it is possible to browse the full list of people who are following the bridge bot directly on Bluesky)

@volpeon@is-a.wyvern.rip having an architecture with multiple different components does not say anything about how decentralized it is.First of all aside from all the architectural handwaving it remains extremely centralized in practice. Only very few parts are officially even possible to self-host while remaining a part of the main network. Even for those the situation remains very centralized.Take the PDS for example: last I checked there was a strict limit of only 10 users for anyone other than them running one and in practice the number of instances not run by the Bluesky company are a rounding error when you look at how many there are and how many users they host. That is also unlikely to change even if the limitations are lifted because there is simply close to zero incentive for anyone to run one. Nothing is different when you do and you are still wholly dependent on the company that actually runs it.In addition to that they openly admit that they don't even really ever expect some parts like the "relays" (used to be called Big Graph Server before I assume marketing decided that sounds bad) to be run by almost anyone besides them. That said, while it is still up in the air whether these claims of decentralization will be fulfilled and how much enshittification there will be once they drink most of what has been coming from the venture capital faucet, for now it seems like there is still hope that it can end up being a better place to be than something like Threads. It's too bad Threads seems to be where most of the momentum is. Maybe their real legacy will be giving a test run for some ideas that can then be adopted by the fediverse.

@aburtch@triangletoot.party it is possible through the brid.gy bridge but they have to have opted in to it (by following the bot associated with it). On the BlueSky side this is done by following https://bsky.app/profile/ap.brid.gy and here opt-in happens by following @bsky.brid.gy@bsky.brid.gy astrokatie does not seem to have done it so you would need to ask her to enable it.@bthalpin@mastodon.social @dgar@aus.social

@richpuchalsky@mastodon.social while it is true Bluesky allows a third-party bridge to exist Bluesky is not federated in practice at all. They do say they want to make it such but currently what they announced as "federation" is severely lacking. Mastodon is not controlled by a single entity in the same way at all.@futurebird@sauropods.win

@shibao@misskey.bubbletea.dev I'm sure they want to do it eventually but these are not designed for everyday users, it's basically just a devkit for now.

@JF@mastodon.codingfield.com maybe that's just what they happen to have been able to sell. I'm not a user anymore but from what I've seen the ad situation on twitter has seemed pretty dire with advertisements of really trashy products that cannot be paying them much instead of quality companies.
