New Velvetyne type release! Jgs font by @adelfaure is both a tribute to ASCII art pioneer Joan G. Stark (a.k.a. jgs, Spunk) and a nice little typeface that's optimized to draw ASCII art.https://velvetyne.fr/fonts/jgs-font/

Jgs font is monospaced, pixel or vector based depending on the version, and its glyphs are drawn in certain ways that allow to better create different patterns and textures just by typing text. Its different versions are intended to design patterns at various display sizes (a bit like optical sizes, but for ASCII Art). Try Jgs font and start drawing now! https://velvetyne.fr/fonts/jgs-font/

Hello, some time ago, we started noticing websites that take advantage of our open source font licenses to make profit through ads. More recently, our next-to-be-published author Xiaoyuan Gao (NotYourTypeFoudry) had a problem with a font-distributing website called Fontesk. [1/2]

Fontesk published one of their fonts, taken from a git repository, as a release and then refused to take it down, blocking Xiaoyuan Gao in the process. Xiaoyuan explained this situation in a recent post. We would like to support her by denouncing this kind of behavior and calling for a greater accountability of open-source font distributors. The Velvetyne Team. [2/2]

@candidexmedia The success of our initiative leads to an important use of our fonts, in particular in art and design schools. That is for the best most of the time, but it is also important to show students other initiatives as interesting as Velvetyne, exist. We don’t want to become a choice by default, just because we are “free” and cool. We want to show the landscape of libre foundries, in order to make font choice a bit more committed.
