@tk it's a nice little town. last i checked we had the most pot shops per capita of anywhere the world. it's know as the one place where the hippies won the culture war.i loved it when i lived there but nothing ever happened and it finally just became so suffocating i had to leave

so what do y'all think about the 'rona vaccinesi've been hearing that this "mrna" tech they're using shouldn't even be called a "vaccine" at all because it's a completely different kind of process, and also all sorts of scary shit about side effects, like that it affects our germline in permanent ways or something like thati know only enough about biology to have a very basic understanding of pharmacology, i.e. practically nothing about genetics and cellular mechanics, so i have no idea what to make of any of this. a very smart friend i trust a lot tho was sounding the alarm about coronavirus vaccines months ago, so i'm guessing there's probably something to this

@tk from what i've heard, most doctors in places that don't allow assisted suicide will use various tricks to euthanize people who are dying slowly and painfully, usually by increasing their painkiller dosage until they suffocate. i even heard of one case where a doctor somehow smuggled out a vial of morphine and gave it to a patient's wife "just in case," tho she didn't figure out until later what he was hinting at. it ranges from "legal grey area" to "flat-out murder" but it's one of the few risks doctors are willing to take in order to reduce suffering, even in america. (there's also a legally safer method called terminal sedation where sometimes doctors will just keep the patient in a medically-induced coma until they die on their own, so they don't have to actually experience the suffering their body is going through.)unfortunately most americans, at least middle-aged ones, have this bizarre pathology where they insist on keeping their dying relatives alive for as long as possible, no matter how much suffering it causes them, and even when the person in question is completely gone from alzheimers or dementia, or just an unconscious vegetable. a doctor wrote this heartbreaking editorial a year or so ago about how often she was legally forced by families to brutally torture their confused, terrified dying relatives just to squeeze a few more days or hours of life out of them (tho i think many doctors would probably just find a way to avoid giving the family a chance to make such a horrid decision in the first place). as someone who has had relatives suffer from dementia and wind up in "nursing" homes, i don't understand why anyone would ever subject someone they ostensibly love to such inhumqn cruelty -- just another disturbing piece of the nightmare that is the american psyche

@galena @kaikatsu @tk i have noticed this secular tendency specifically in the US where the government does seem to feel like it has supreme authority over who lives and who dies and will go to absurd lengths to enforce that sense of entitlement for no other reason but making sure nobody gets the idea that they have any authority over their own bodies. they'll spend vast amounts of money and resources to save the life of a death row prisoner who attempts suicide only to execute him an hour later.

@kaniini i think we have our own; haven't heard much about it (if i had to take a vaccine, i'd rather go with the russian or chinese ones) but as long as it's not Made In America that's something

@kaniini @sean i remember this time my shitty ex and i went to a local head shop in their terrible neighborhood to score some kratom because i was dopesick and the guy in front of us was looking for a meth pipe (which i'm pretty sure it's illegal for stores to sell in the state of washington). then there was the time we were in SF and walked past a dude standing in the middle of the BART station right by the entrance stairs shooting up in plain sightit's like all the meth just shuts off their sense of discretion and self-preservation or something
