@lina@eientei.org @ceo_of_monoeye_dating@lab.nyanide.com Seriously?Sure, the monetary incentives are against helping the patient, as in all medicine. :ablobdizzy:Some therapists are great, some do the job, and some are terrible. I do not have the numbers so I don't know how much of each. However, if your bone is broken you go see a surgeon, it does not right itself. If your mind is broken you got see a therapist or a psychiatrist, it does not right itself. :abunhd:

@ceo_of_monoeye_dating@lab.nyanide.com @lina@eientei.org "If there were good therapists, such things would simply not happen."That's an obvious fallacy. That you encountered a bad therapist only proves existence of bad therapists, and nothing about existence of good therapists. At least some anecdotal evidence of existence of good therapists exists.Accidents and malpractice exists in all fields of medicine. There is, unfortunately, a substantial difference in the view of general public on different medical fields. For example, it is considered normal that one's bone may become broken, and may need the help of a surgeon. Consequently, people are generally considering the possibility of going to one. That makes evaluating performance of surgical wards, and uprooting malpractice part of public debate. In spite of wealth of evidence to the contrary there is a widely held opinion that going to a psychiatric ward is something that 'can't happen to a decent person'. People are about as enamored with thinking about psychiatric ward as they are with thinking about death. With that many institutions evade scrutiny, and institutions known for malpractice persist in many places. When in medical emergency reviewing performance of medical institutions that might potentially provide relevant care is not something people want or can do.Unfortunately, past performance of some institutions certainly warrants exactly that. :ablobcatcry:

@karolherbst@chaos.social There is actually user service specification that predates systemd https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/XDG_AutostartSystemd had to invent different, incompatible one that is not portable outside of Linux. That's not to say that you can't use it if you like it, and don't care about other systems. systemd provides more bells and whistles with it's implementation, and even compatibility with the preexisting standard. For a long time GNOME had one of the two implementations of this standard what was totally embedded inside gnome without any possibility to use it with other DE and as a result there was no interest in contribution from non-GNOME developers. That's one way how to make the maintenance of tricky code harder than it has to be. :abunhd:

@shironeko@fedi.tesaguri.club @karolherbst@chaos.social Wish systemd actually did.Why is journald mandatory? Why are eudev and elogind separate projects, and can't be built out of systemd? That's the thing, systemd also aims for kitchen sink solution that you can either use or have to rewrite the world, and that puts off a lot of people, as you noticed :neocat_flop:

@mangeurdenuage@shitposter.world @SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo The FSF position is that if the firmware is 'part of the hardware' (ie. locked down, not updatable) it's 'less non-free' than when the firmware is loaded from the OS, there was no talk about free software whatsoever. There is indeed a potential legal problem with loading the firmware from the OS. The firmware may be provided as part of some driver, OS image, or embedded as data in some binary of questionable license making it practically illegal to run an OS different from what was shipped by the manufacturer. The problem with having the firmware in a ROM that is truly not rewritable is that it prevents fixing firmware (security) bugs by updating the firmware. There is nothing stopping the manufacturer from attaching a problematic license to the hardware itself as well but it's not customary to do so, and it would be way more obvious than attaching problematic license to a separate firmware that is needed to make use of the hardware. :abunhd:

@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo @pixel@desu.social @iro_miya@mk.absturztau.be @kura@hai.z0ne.socialIt's possible to just accept weeds growing over your garden if you cba to weed them out but there are some practical problems. Like if your garden is overgrown with two meter tall thistles it's difficult to host a barbecue party. They might block light from getting into your house. Many places have regulations against unkept gardens, too.Lawn mowing is a way to weed your garden without dealing with individual plants of weeds. By mowing down everything at least a few times a year you create an environment in which grass prospers better than tall weeds, and eventually takes over. There are kind of 'mop style' lawn mowers that are good at mowing down small areas between other plants, too. Not having any grass to start with makes this more complicated, you would have to plant some. There are plants that are considered acceptable to grow in a garden that are basically weeds. For example if somewhere around you can find wild mint it's very likely it will overtake any shaded area if you bring in a few cuts during some time when it's not too dry. But that's more complex to do. You need to find some plants that grow naturally so well in your area that you would not get problems with other weeds growing among them, and do not get in your way when fully grown. In any case trying to mow down the things that you don't like in your garden instead of pulling them out is probably worth trying. It's much less effective at getting rid of the weeds but much simpler to do. Often there are places that lend out garden machinery so you can try it out without sinking much money into it :abunhd:

@sendpaws@mitra.pawslut.party @deprecated_ii@poa.st @EdBoatConnoisseur@poa.st @RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co That 12V power is unfortunately often also flaky, especially weird multi-pin connectors. When doing a lot of disk imaging I found some of those trapdoor-style docks work best. The reason is probably they have one plain 12V barrel jack, and the 5V and 3.3V is generated internally. Also using one drive in two-drive dock probably helped with not overloading the power brick.
