@ArcaneAlchemist @nex This is quite a misrepresentation. Matrix isn't any better suited for E2EE than XMPP is. The thing that Matrix tries to do different from the XMPP standard is eventually consistent state synchronization.

@bobdobberson @jason123santa My personal issue with Matrix is that I don't think it's a good idea to use products of venture capital startups that essentially re-invent a basic internet standard. Projects like Matrix are poison for interoperability.

@bobdobberson @jason123santa The Matrix project could have been an XMPP client. Now there is no way to send an end-to-end encrypted message or to call someone from a standard compliant XMPP client.

@strypey @element > The savings [...] are enormous, literally millions of euros if [...] deployments were built on Synapse Pro rather than Synapse. Got to love that the #Matrix protocol is so computationally expensive it costs millions of euros in public funding to run. How much more millions of euros would they be saving if they would off-the-shelf #XMPP servers instead?

@strypey Under Torrents:> These torrents are not meant for downloading individual books.I strongly disagree. Since I'm able to select individual files in my torrent client I can download only what I need and seed the file to other readers and archivers. If you only download via HTTP you give back nothing.

@strypey I think it's a mistake of this website to hide the torrent options in the download sections. GenLib always gives you a torrent link.

@strypey Not sure that's supposed to be the lesson. Things like human rights, democracy, freedom of press etc. threatened by the far-right are too important to depend on what the left does or does not. The lesson should have been that parties with certain ideologies should not be allowed to be elected again, even, and especially when there is an electorate for them.

@maple @praveen @ronald @ravi If somebody uses Signal all their contacts are also required to register with their telephone number to use Signal with them, because it's a walled garden. If they used Quicksy instead, their contacts don't necessarily need to use Quicksy just to talk to them. They still have the freedom to choose any other XMPP provider, most of which do not require any personal information whatsoever, or even host their own.Convenience without restricting the freedom of others.
