@shacker thus extending the list of games you shouldn't play with a pigeon from "chess" to "chess and cycling" 😅I had a (European) green woodpecker fly alongside me once or twice. That's spectacular bc they expose their red bits when flying. Fortunately they got their maths right when they wanted to head for the other side. I wouldn't fancy having an irate woodpecker attached to my head 😵

@al @troed @simon unfortunately, maybe a lot of writing was superfluous already. most of the marketing in the world is pretty much on the level of spam. If there's a market for human writing, it's for communication tasks that are much more targeted, that need integration of knowledge from multiple fields and that have to be vastly more effective. >

@al @troed @simon ai can repoduce stuff that already exists in a certain volume. But there are many communicative situations where just a few ppl in the world have their own language for something and the things that need to be said are very nearly unique. >

Als Prinzip mit demselbem Fahrzeug und Fahrer die lange Autobahnfahrt und dann die letzte Meile durch immer enger werdende Stadtstraßen und -gassen – mit vielen Eigenheiten, die der Fahrer uU gar nicht kennt – zu absolvieren, finde ich gewagt. Wir haben eine bestimmte Art der Logistik begünstigt, diese Rahmenbedingungen sind aber gemacht und kein Naturgesetz.

@emmauspilger Widerspruch. Nordirland ist gerade in einer Zeit friedlicher geworden, in der die Leute zunehmend von ihren religösen Traditionen lösen.Und wenn man ansatzweise die Geschichte der europäischen Frühmoderne kennt, verstehe ich nicht wie man einen Glauben, dass das Christentum über Quellen des Friedens verfügt, die anderen nicht zugängich sind, aufrechterhalten kann.Das Christentum hat sich auch weitgehend mit dem Faschismus arrangiert und manchmal leider viel mehr als das.

@emmauspilger OK, was ist mit den 90%, die er nicht zur Kenntnis genommen hat, passiert?Im übrigen: Regimes, mit denen sich die katholische Kirche bestens verstanden hat: Salazar, Franco, Mussolini, Pavelić, Dollfuss, Horthy, Tiso. Und die evangelischen sind weitgehendst Nazi-Sympathisanten oder Mitläufer geworden.Keine christliche Kirche in Europa kann behaupten, sich als Ganzes gegen den Zusammenbruch der Zivilisation gestellt zu haben.

V-brakes tend to be too grabby for my taste.Adjusting the cantis I found that there's such a thing as too much and too little mechanical advantage. And in between, there's a sweet spot. Discs apparently have much more mechanical advantage, at the cost of having a tiny range of travel of the pads. Which makes them tricky to adjust, in their own way. >

@nothingfuture @mhoye @tk @cycling @mastobikes What limits me eg from going faster on descents is not a lack of braking power but hesitating to put myself in situations where I'd have to brake hard. How I'm sitting on the bike & how much I'm at one with steering it and finding the right line has more potential for improvement, I think.If it was really long descents or really really long rides, I guess discs would make it easier on my hands. <>
