@liaizon yeah i'm not surprised. the fairphone has alway been kind of a joke. It's just green capitalism at it's finest. Poor people are going to buy what they can afford (not the fairphone) while some rich folks pay a premium to feel better about themselves. Don't get me wrong i love that it's repairable. but i'm still way more excited about what the pinephone could do for opensource by selling an entirely opensource device for under $200

Anyone who saves a large variety of seeds have a good method for organizing them? My mess of dishes, baggies, jars, envelopes, and pockets is not sustainable. Boosts appreciated!

@wakest the problem has always been distribution of said data. Open street maps specifically forbids google data from being copied into it. The legal battle just isn't worth it. And the infrastructure to distribute the pirate data in a useful way is non trivial. Maybe a p2p solution could do it. Mapeo and osm-p2p are two projects to watch. An extract and backup of google maps would be the first step. And that's not really trivial either. That's a crap ton of data if you're talking about the whole world. Personally I find open street maps to be good enough. I use it daily for navigation. The only time I miss google is when I'm driving into a large city and want real time traffic alerts.

@wakest there are tons of osm clients that do routing well. Osmand is what I use on Android. It is an excellent foss application. I have full maps of my area and routing available offline with no 3rd party tracking of my location. The official osm website even provides routing now.Yeah osm data is spotty. I'm sure it's even worse outside the us. I'm not poo pooing stealing from google. It's honestly something i think about a lot. I think globally if you're just extracting vector data it would be in the high terabytes. If you're collecting tiles or imagery those are larger. I could be off that's just a rough guess from working in mapping for a couple years.

@wakest oh transit routing missed that word. Yeah i don't have a good solution there. I think there's an alternative for public transit. Might be called open transit maps actually
