OK, I need some actual and non-trolling #Windows #IT help. On a Windows 10 machine, and when following general best practices, do you still need some 3rd party anti-virus/etc program? If so, which ones are useful rather than just cash dumps building off their brand name since the 90s?

@mansr Ad blocker falls into general best practices. And, well, me. I'm attempting to escape the hell that is trying to run a Windows-centric .NET app for fan control and having been bested at figuring out what the hell EC registers control manual vs auto fan control, I'm currently in i3-under-WSL. Since 90% of my laptop use is "ssh to a real machine", I'm seeing how this goes.

As I just boosted something about Glimpse I'd just like to remind everyone that many of us (and you) are old enough to remember that the whole point of the other project's long form name was that it could be called the other thing for short as it's funny! Remember the Tarantino movie? Say what again motherfucker! Other memorable lines! But after over 20 years maybe it's OK to admit some jokes just don't age well?

@codesections Do you have some rate limit or other firewall rules around ssh? FWIW, the general case of "I moved along with my device, new IP" is why I use mosh+ssh auth rather than ssh.

So in TIL, thanks to @ed_packet I now know that a commonplace book is a thing that people have done for actual ages. Shuffling the recipes markdown folder I started last night into a new top level commonplace folder, throwing that at Syncthing and putting a markdown editor/viewer on my phone (and finally syncthing there, too). Next up is to move "take a photo of that price tag to see if it's cheaper elsewhere" to a file.
