@thor I sometimes think I would like to go to Point Barrow just for the equinox.

@thor it's the permafrost. When the water doesn't sink into the ground, there are lots of little lakes where mosquitos breed. I could be wrong, but I think climate change might actually be reducing mosquito populations in some latitudes.

@thor wow. That's a cold winter for sure. I grew up at roughly 62°N.

@thor how obvious can it get, right? Two holes. Pretty much how it goes. Except birds with their weird cloaca.

Why do desktop windows have tiny borders that are hard to grab with a mouse? Can no one imagine better #UX?

I'm looking for employment where, every day as I go into work, I know my kids, when they are adults, will be aware of the benefit to them of my work. I am looking for a company working toward enduring impact that should still be clear 10 and 20 years from now.If you can't live without foresight, and you could use a Linux/JVM/Postgres/Kotlin dev who can do pretty much anything given a minute to read the docs, please do reach out.

@stux maybe you know, but that's actually a defensive fighting position for a cat. They thrust with their hind claws. It'll f*ck you up.

@abloo When cats do things like this I always remember they use time lord technology to occupy all spaces I could potentially be for the sole purpose of reminding me how honored I am to be in the presence of their fuzzy excellence. Then kiss them's liddle nose to acknowledge truth of kitty. Then pour kitty into optimal configuration.

@grumpy @mycorrhiza oh hey, I think I'm one of those people. I just notice the dew. Now I'm like, "I know when there will be dew." And my partner is like "you have exceeded my attention span." And I'm like "but that sentence was seven syllables" but she isn't listening because I'm the kind of person who likes to talk about dew points. 🥺

@grumpy @mycorrhiza You're actually asking? If those lines are exact, no dew, but I would guess you had a little dew on the 12th and 13th. If that bottom light blue line hits 100: dew.

@piggo the google cache? For SEO, paywalled sites often serve full text to crawlers. Try spoofing a crawler with curl or a proxy sending a crawler user agent? If it works, lmk!

@piggo lol okay, but I don't have to tell you (right?) that the size of the particles, shape of the dunes, crystalline structure of that rock, could say a lot about the atmosphere, local erosion patterns, and geology.

@jon SSB devs and users are active participants, but yeah, just show up and do a presentation on #ActivityPub. Please. I would attend if I were going. I would expect you to be welcome. To attempt an answer, though: my sense is that Kahle wants to boost ethical tech that could potentially host an Archive.I've never heard of any application of ActivityPub to distributing aggregate arbitrary binary data, metadata, or library/archive/museum collections. Did I miss it?

@neglesaks@BillySmith I haven't hooked it up since I moved six months ago, but my partner and kids watch a lot on tablets. Computers are TVs when you want them to be. Do they count?

@selea @unfa my thoughts too. But most people could probably look around their home and find energy usage patterns to optimize with more impact. Like turning the water heat down at night.
