@bobstechsite Just to be an outlier here; id mention Mageia. Ive been trying it out and its inherited by lineage a lot of Mandrake's attempts in prior decades to be desktop friendly. They have invested a lot of effort in wrapping up linux configuration in GUIs in a way I haven't seen in a while.https://doc.mageia.org/mcc/6/en/content/index.htmlAsks at install time if you want all the non-free bells and whistles. Also just seems like a competent distro to boot.

@Ricardus I didn't get it for a long time either; until I realized it was file sharing but for memes and photos.

@Ricardus well, part of that realization involved then understanding it wasn't for me.

@Ricardus I have 2 instagram accounts I follow, only because their people I know who use it to post their artistic endeavors. May not be applicable to your friend; but I find rss-brdige an acceptable way of following such things if I deem it necessary.

One thing I've been thinking of this morning in terms of the #SDF this morning is how it's mastodon instance is constructed on the tomb of their old GNU Social instance. The first months of my usage of mastodon.sdf.org were peppered with people asking where the GNU Social instance went.Semi official word on bboard at the time, I believe was that its usage was non existent and the server had hardware failures.

Was it really non existent? Why was there no announcement to the users who were obviously using it? It's absence was clearly felt by some. Will that be a foreshadowing of how the #SDF mastodon instance goes out one day?

@rgggn older Kobo's have some alternate completely libre firmwares floating around on github. (sans wifi firmware blobs) Their not entirely feature complete, but good enough for simple eReading.

@maiki A lot of alternate x86 DOS clones specialized in multitasking before Microsoft crushed them, by leveraged windows to be only compatible with their DOS. PC-MOS was one such example that went GPL a couple years ago. Some versions of DR-DOS spring to mind.TSR progs like borland sidekick also tried to fill in the gap for non multitasking DOSes.

@cat For me its pretty much my only gaming PC. In that regard I think it's worth it. (Laptop has intel video, no other desktop.)GNU/Linux support is surprisingly good if your on a recentish kernel. Build quality is good, though I have managed to chip the start button on the keyboard at somepoint, somehow. No other complaints. Would definitely consider a model 3 down the road.

@tomasino In that vein ive been debating a Pi-Top too. More expensive, but if you've allready got a raspberry pi it makes some sense; and also in that vein is upgradeable.

Bloodstained is dropping the linux and mac versions and not offering refunds to backers who supported their campaign. Their assuming people have a windows box or consile to pivot to.Thats fucked up. I got why they dropped the vita port. Sony is winding down the platform. But GNU/Linux and macos are not going anywhere.

@tomasino Im on board for the switch port, more offended in principle. Though sans switch linux would be the only other platform available to me.

@SetecAstronomy @djsundog which one? They used one resort for the interior shots and a different one for the exterior.I ask because ive thought about going to the Lake Lure location a couple of times. They have an annual festival there. But it would be a bummer if the lake is gone.
