I am reminded of what I should not need to be retold:'I do not need to join every fight I'm invited to, much less the ones to which I'm not.

If the plural of “ attorney general” is “attorneys general,” shouldn’t the plural identifier for Tikka and Champ be “kitties cat?”

@lauren This seems like an admission of growing weakness.

I've spent the day writing the opening scene to a chapter about how the mud-and-shit fillied trenches of the Western Front created a wound-infection regime that ate limbs and lives without surceaseWW I tears me up. It was so stupid, so unnecessary, and so much the foundation on wh. the 20th c.'s later hell was built that each time I read about it a tiny part of me hopes that this time they'll figure it out and not do it.They never do. It is relentlessly tragic.

Every 5-4 SC decision in which Thomas has been in the majority needs to be seen as a bought-and-paid for act of corruption. I doubt there was ever anything as crude as an explicit yacht-ride-for-ruling quid pro quo, but Thomas opened himself up to improper influence and every one of his decisions is correspondingly tainted.I’m guessing he’s not the only one so compromised, but that’s for a different day.

I think the best way to understand the (risible) defenses of Clarence Thomas showing up on the right (looking at you, @WallStreetJournalBot ) is as an attempt to steal a second SC seat. Thomas’s disclosed financial deceptions would be enough to compel a judge or justice’s resignation at almost any time in US history—but not now, as the GOP needs a judicial support to complete its attempted anti-democratic coup.

Luttig's piece may be headlined that there is still time for the GOP to save itself. The essay itself makes it clear how unlikely it is that it will.https://balloon-juice.com/2023/06/28/yes-it-is-too-late-for-the-republican-party-but-at-least-we-know-there-is-one-honorable-republican/#comments

It's worth remembering that as Trump seeks an indefinite delay of his trial the evidence already in the public arena is overwhelmingly convincing of his guilt. That's not say he isn't entitled to a full hearing of his side of the story. It is a reminder that we already know of extraordinary breaches of national security. He's pushing for delay not because he's innocent or a stickler for procedure but because his guilt is so obvious he can't risk putting his fate in the hands of a jury.

@StillIRise1963 If any of his crew have half a brain, they'll shiv him before he underbusses them.Seems possible Graham may have already done so. Whether or not, the others better get in fast before more nimble felons get the best deals ahead of them.

I don't know about you, but I'm not so ready to condemn the Google AI for what the writer sees as an error. The idea of snacking on attorneys has nice Swiftian/Shakespearean ring to it, doesn't it?
