The more time I spend here the less tolerance I have for nonsense on the Internet. Algorithms seem really obvious in what they feed me, ads more obnoxious and the comment threads on the slightest of controversial subjects seems more toxic than ever. This is true not just on the birdsite which I left but FB and IG which I check every now and again. I'm visiting them less and less...On the other hand I'm reading more actual blog and article content so this is a win.

@DecaturNature I'm going back a long ways so the excuse is a bit lame, but the end of Google Reader really threw my RSS mojo for a loop. Started rebuilding that just this week with Feedly which sends to Pocket which sends to my Kobo reader. So now I have mobile offline reading. Something I didn't even have with Google Reader.

@stux I love those sorts of videos. I do OK with relatively low heights - we live over 400 feet above the city. But go higher - or outdoors like I did on the CN tower (1,168 feet up) and it's pretty terrifying. The first time I leaned back off the edge my legs WOULD NOT let me even though I KNEW I was safe tied off with two cables.

@stux Not sure about *everyone* but I did. It was a very cheap old used '64 Chevrolet (before they got trendy). It might also depend on where you live. Where I lived, without a car there was no getting to see anyone. So everyone eventually got one. Some kids got them from their parents, others would borrow their parents' to get to their part time job for a while and then buy one of their own within a few months.

@stux @edgeoforever Looking at where I grew up (Rural Vermont) I was lucky to have a *tiny* bit of transit. There were 3-4 weekly van routes to take people (mostly seniors) shopping. I'd use it to go the 55 km to get to my grandparents place on Fridays. My parents would pick me up on Sunday. Sometimes I'd even catch *another* van in the eve from my grandparents place to a mall another 55 km away. The van would wait a couple hours and then drop us all back off.

@nicole We felt similarly about Canada - Australia would have also been a great, and warmer, choice for us.

@stux Yep. We left the US for Canada at the end of 2003 because it felt like things were getting bad. We had *no idea* how bad. We did it for ourselves, sure, but especially for our son.Now I'm wondering if we moved far enough away. I'm joking about this the way I joked about moving to Canada in 1992.

Today when I got to the street about 50 metres from the bus stop I saw the bus approaching. The next one behind it was 30 min away I started flat out sprinting for it. Sadly, though, he didn't stop. But when he saw me give up he gestured as he passed - he would stop right away - my own personal stop. People love to complain about services and how terrible the people are that work for them. However, they are simply human and there are lots of good humans in the world.

#3GoodThings (Plus one thanks to a recent #MicroAdventure 1) Salads at the work cafeteria are tasty and cheap and the staff who make them knows my order now so it's even faster.2) I"m remembering when I *had* to have 5 cups of coffee/day to feel human. Now my second cup is starting to feel optional.3) Early morning bike rides to work are peaceful and nearly traffic free.4) My bike commute (pictured) is 20 km and almost 50% off road.@3goodthings

@stux Oh that clip is great! Thanks for sharing it.Also I think someone needs to bring up Ezekiel 23:20. Texas needs to ban that graphic book right away!If you're not familiar with it, here's a link. But I should tell you, it is legitimately NSFW - at least in my workplace:https://www.biblestudytools.com/ezekiel/23-20.html

Accountability pledge: Sunday morning after Hindi class I'll have a brief snack and within 30 minutes, get on my bike, and ride >150km to Niagara Falls regardless of the weather (unless it's *legitimately dangerous*). That is all. #biketooter

All of this is, of course, in aid of raising money for our local food bank whom I'll be riding 200km/day for leaving on June 28th. You would make my day and motivate me that much more to ride harder if you could make a secure and tax deductable donation here: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/pages/sprint-to-montreal-for-food-security/

@futurebird Like others have said, it is a flow of ideas for me. Like when you go from learning a language and translating every word (ie “a is here b is there” for the keyboard) to just having the words come once you are fluent.
