@KimPerales Once I saw the byline, I realized this was trolling. I remember when Solender was an intern during the 2020 primary. He'd spend his time on Twitter trying to raise the hackles of supporters of various Dem candidates. It was all agit-prop.That said, there is no defense of Phillips. If he doesn't realize the stakes of this election, then he has no business being in politics. We don't have the luxury of a circular firing squad when the survival of our democracy is on the line.

@KimPerales I don't know if Republicans count on the stupidity or venality of their base, but whatever the case its absurd to think that the supply of fentanyl in the US would have been transported by individuals instead of large-cargo vehicles (trucks, ships).

@raymondpert I hope TASS is exaggerating. Russia's lost ground in the south and faced a barrage of drone attacks in the past day, so this story -- which may or may not be true -- is needed to bolster popular support for the invasion. The demise of Prigozhin and Wagner may also be at play here. The Russian military needs to prop itself up after looking so inept compared to a group of mercenaries.

My lucky streak has ended.Today I tested positive for #covid. I was hoping I could make it to year 4 without an infection. Right now I feel like crap but I suppose when this is over I can be happy that I've entered the ranks of those with hybrid immunity.

@Wolven Tonight I learned that the protestors on my campus sent out a call for chains, locks, sandbags, zip ties, etc. Sandbags. WTF? Only fellow travellers are admitted into the encampment, and no effort is made to talk to anyone outside the echo chamber, even those politely asking for dialogue. No, I cannot imagine civil rights protestors refusing dialogue. They wanted to persuade people, not vanquish them, because they actually believed in the free exercise of mind.

@Wolven I experienced the protests in the 60s and 70s, albeit as someone quite young but still able to understand the fear of the draft, the incomprehension about why Vietnam mattered to the US, anger about US military tactics & colonial aspirations, etc. I don't see the current protests in this vein. In my view they're a perversion of it. I never said anything about calling the police or indicate support for beating up protestors. I'm not sure why you attribute that to me.

@Wolven The encampment is on the lawn in front of the library. I suspect the sandbags, chains and locks were for occupying a building. The members of the encampment called on the local community to join them. This and the prep.for occupying a building changed what had till then been a lax attitude toward the encampment.

@Wolven They're not increasing their numbers in occupying buildings, or protecting themselves on my campus. As I said, the encampment was accepted as political expression. Things took a turn yesterday when a student was punched and plans were being hatched to occupy a building.I'd love if there were an effort to understand a protracted conflict and how peace can be achieved. That's not happening here.

I wish you could understand why that one slogan--which in Arabic is worse--strikes so many of us as a call for the elimination of Israel altogether. It kills conversation before any can be started. Israelis aren't going anywhere; Palestinians aren't going anywhere. We've come close to a peace deal a few times but never succeeded. We need one now more than ever.

All I meant to say was that some slogans make it even harder to imagine what peace would be. All of us are battered by the news we read. @futurebird The BLS commissioner throughout most of Biden's term was a Trump appointee named William Beach. His term ran from March 2019-March 2023. Biden's worst job numbers were at the beginning of his term. We saw robust job growth through most of 2023 and all of 2024, if I recall correctly.
