@boilingsteam Got a GTX 3070 this year when prices dropped below MSRP, but it hasn't gotten much use at all since I've been daily driving a MacBook Pro for productivity/code and a Steam Deck for gaming.

@boilingsteam Is that a problem at all, though? The nature of federation is, 1) if you don't engage with people on the major/larger instances, it's not a significant concern for you. 2) If your main engagement is with major instances, there might be a case to move there instead of being on a small instance- if not, not a problem, 3) you have other instances, and in fact, regulation here might make things safer for you if you can pick where you are.

@boilingsteam For 3 in particular, the danger of regulation is that there is content on your global service (Twitter) that might be legal to view and access in some jurisdictions, but the act of viewing it is specifically illegal in other jurisdictions; With federation, you can block problematic instances or prevent content from instances known to by legally problematic from automatically loading/caching on your instance (ie, illustrated CSAM is legal in Formosa/Japan).

@boilingsteam If it's not working as intended because of that, it's because the intentions behind federation are an ideal that does not consider a real world scenario where nation-states act as controlling forces- however, I don't consider that to be a downside. Monolithic social networks already fall prey to that- Birdsite is bound to the laws where they operate, and even others due to specific viral laws that are based on viewer, not provider.

@boilingsteam @Viewtifulcereza Honestly, not hard, but you also overestimate general technical capacity. When I was in university in Tokyo back in 2012, my native Japanese peers had great difficulty using office suites to do work- the uni still accepted multi page handwritten essays for a reason

@futurebird For the US, signatures don't have to be stylized (and check your local policies, but often they don't even have to be your name and can be a pattern or marking)Just needs to be consistent and verifiable
