I badly want Disney to own The Lost Boys so that Keiffer Sutherland can claim his rightful place as a Disney Princess

In an attempt to engage with some other humans with a common interest, I finally joined a discord instance. (I think they call it a "servers" to give the illusion of ownership of a thing). Of all things, why did some tech bro decide Slack was what normal humans were missing from their lives?

..and, just like slack, I tried the app under the assumption that there would be some non-trivial benefit over the abysmal web interface. Shocker: there is not.

Do any of the android #mastodon apps fold last line hashtags under the images/preview? I've tried two apps this morning (tusky, and obe with a shark logo), and neither do it. Without it I'd rather just stick to the Web app. #megaladon seems OK, but no hadhtag folding and the Web app seems to make better use of screen realestate. Hats off for seamless login to my instance though (#tusky presented a login screen with no autofill)

@chris @aral I hadn't heard about Wayland breaking accessibility, that is unforgivable! As someone that didn't think moving a window with a mouse was actually the most important thing in the world, I remain perpetually bemused by the cost/benefits trade off of Wayland. A collosal waste of effort, with trivial gains and epic losses.

@aral @chris Wayland seemed like the wrong fix. Initially they dismissed tiling window managers as a model, and that's why I am stuck on X11. I have very poor eyesight (though not blind, enough that I can't pass a driving test). Programmable window managers (xmonaf for a while now) help me build a practical desktop that works for me. When Wayland started the entire approach was dismissed. Fine for a niche product, crap when your blessed by the largest vendors before problems are solved.

@benjojo doesn't even have a hit counter! Where's the banner? Glad to see big blocks of centred text is still a thing.

@benjojo this is the second Gmail/Google exodus reference I've seen today. Have they announced something stupid?

@benjojo when my dad did his apprenticeship with BT he worked on dishes on the outside of that tower, and the tower at Crystal Palace.

@mjg59 I'm just grumpy because I never cared about any of the things Wayland fixes, but I do care that I've had a nice, usable, a credible working xmonad config for 11 years , and porting xmonad is, AIUI essentially impossible (if not literally, then by virtue of being an unapproachably massive task). Old man hates change. Not much of a news story.

@bagder I don't think we're giving GitHub enough credit for providing the single most potent attack vector in the tech world, along with a host of tools for mass automation against that attack vector. That's not a small thing. Thanks to them updating software has never been this dangerous, ever, and no one is thanking them.

'People don't hate Labour... they hate Starmer', Labour MP tells BBCThat feels demonstrably false. You don't put a reform candidate on a local council because you don't like the labour leader. (well, people are fucking stupid, so maybe they do). Blaming Starmer is lazy.Unfortunately "just wants to watch the world burn", is now a very active voting block.#ukpol
