i pretty much don’t recommend hydromodding stuff. it gives a little more clarity but at the cost of being a huge pain in the ass every time you need to change a battery, which is probably more often now that the seconds hand is fighting a more viscous fluid. I’m hopeful that the 4 hertz hand will suffer less because it moves in smaller increments, but i couldn’t find anyone online who had done it long enough to see how battery life changed

here is my 1936 lord elgin that normally only does special occasions. it’s not water resistant but is a lovely hand-wound 21 jewel movement. it’s from the time when watches were perhaps at their smallest so it’s a 28.6mm diameter case. it’s got an inscription that commemorates my great grandfather’s 25 years at Lux Clock Company and is made of 18k gold, back when companies did that for such a milestone. I spent some cash (way too little for the work done) getting it restored about 12 years ago. this thing is a real looker in my personal opinion

this one has been saved for last because i was doing an endurance test. people say kinetic movements are hard to keep charged but i wore this about once a week prior to taking it off 28 days ago and it still was indicating max charge. a mid 90s seiko kinetic gmt. my only gmt watch, i took a shot at bidding on it on ebay and won it for very cheap as the only bid.

in theory this also makes it able to dive to depths far beyond any normal watch rating, because the primary challenge for a dive watch is that the air inside is compressible, so replacing that with liquid reduces the stress on the watch at great depth. but that is purely academic because i will never do anything that the 100m rating couldn’t handle

this reads like a joke, but it really isn’t. instead of specifying the time zone or UTC, saying @333 is universal and each person can learn to relate these number to their individual time zone.
