Dear LazyWeb: I need to get my blog search off Google, it’s becoming unusable. Sometime in the last year I saw talk (Fedi posts I think?) about two different local-search packages (both JavaScript I think?). Thought I bookmarked ’em but can’t find ’em. Does this ring bells for anyone?

Wow, thanks for all the input. Since the blog has millions of words of text, in-memory is not going to cut it; given that, PageFind.app looks like a good choice; batteries included and knows how to index a big tree of static pages. That's assuming I can figure out the right glob to match my article names, the equivalent of either [^.]+ or [-A-Za-z0-9]+ - so far it’s defeating me but I’ll get there.

The weird thing about the #genAI bubble is that everyone who's even moderately well-informed knows perfectly well that it's a bubble. I read quite a bit of finance journalism and skepticism/cynicism dominate there. In that respect it’s more like 2008 than 2000. Like they say, “the market can remain insane longer than investors can remain solvent”. But surely not that much longer?

Having been a (light but regular) Wikipedia editor for many years has made me reflexively disbelieve anything I read or hear that includes a number but doesn’t provide a citation to back it up. I think this is a good habit?
