@mlanger @feoh The intention of copyright was not to pass on generational wealth, but rather to give creators a temporary monopoly over their works, long enough to capitalize on them for a period of time, but not so long that they can't transition into the public domain where other creators can utilize them in new works. I would definitely say it's more important for works to pass into the public domain than to pass down as generational wealth.

@thelinuxEXP Yeah, I totally get that, and trust me, I know how much of an annoyance that is, even if you're just copy/pasting descriptions, etc. I've been through all of that, doing it once is not a big deal, doing it over and over again gets old fast. I appreciate all you do to support TILvids and the wider open-source community through The Linux Experiment. I always point you out as the shining example of what the world of online video could look like if we all just demanded better. 😃

@thelinuxEXP Argh, so sorry about that. What a pain. 😠 It's always tough to know where the problem is between the "hardware" (VPS) and PeerTube. We don't have the traffic volume I'd anticipate needing to upgrade the hardware though, so maybe it's just inefficiencies in the software/database. I'll try restarting the server for you tonight, just to see if that helps.

@thelinuxEXP I appreciate that, definitely trying my best to make it work. 😅 Unfortunately real-life demands have been much higher this last year, so I haven't been able to dedicate as much time as I used to. I was hoping that by this point the site would have a large enough community that I could step back and spin it out as a non-profit, run by a combo of creators/mods/community. Still not there yet, hopefully someday. 😄

PSA: #YouTube has begun blocking import on many hosts, including the one we use at TILvids. This means that auto-sync for channels will no longer work, which puts incredible pressure/effort on creators like @thelinuxEXP trying to make content available in multiple locations. Because of this, expect there to be some disruptions in content availability.This is why it's so important to support non #Google software and services, because they are swiftly becoming a bad actor in the world of #tech

@ChrisWere This is literally what it's going to take. People, both creators and viewers, deciding consciously not to use YouTube. I think it's going to have to be pushed from both ends, but if more viewers would reach out to the creators and encourage them to join or begin a PeerTube instance, that would be a good start.

@ChrisWere 💯 agree that YouTube has changed. I don't know how much money smaller creators are making on YouTube, but I can't imagine it's enough to actually support themselves. So knowing that, it's mostly about audience. And if these creators would just band together and either join an instance or start their own, they could then pull sponsorship at an instance-level that they could all share. That was always my goal for TILvids, along with incorporating as a non-profit.

Heads-up for the #PeerTube community, it appears Google has been blocking many tools/IP ranges that try to synchronize with YouTube. At least for the creators on #tilvids this is a massive challenge, because they can no longer sync THEIR content on multiple platforms, requiring them to manually upload to both TILvids AND #youtube We appreciate our creators going the extra mile, and please remember this is why it's so important to support alternative platforms.https://github.com/Chocobozzz/PeerTube/issues/6522#tech
