A “missing" feature being something where there should have been a way to do a certain thing, that should've been possible with current federation logic. For instance, missing links between pages, missing abilities to find certain information, etc.So like, for ages we didn't have navigation links to Appeals and Account Warning Presents, even though those features existed, we'd just somehow missed the navigation links for those.

Brazil should take a note from the EU's DSA and impose monetary fines should a company not sufficiently moderate content on their platforms to combat misinformation and disinformation.X says it's closing operations in Brazil, because Brazil would arrest legal representatives of companies not complying with their laws.https://techcrunch.com/2024/08/17/x-says-its-closing-operations-in-brazil/

Okay, so, there's like this Mastodon issue that I'd like to work on that's a huge precursor to potentially a lot of other things that could improve the fediverse. However, in order to work on it, I'd need probably €10k+ in funding, because it's likely to take me at least a month and a half to complete, as it's quite complex. How would you go about gaining that amount of funding?

Note: I'm not currently saying what the issue is, for a few reasons, but it is a significant one. I'm hoping y'all will trust me that it's important. There's an incredibly small chance I might be able to direct some of my current grant towards it, however, it'd be very difficult to justify to the grant funders. The other option is going via grant funding again, but that process would delay implementation by 4-9 months, based on my past experiences.

A friend just gave me this wonderful analogy about elections:“Elections aren’t an uber taking you to exactly where you want to go, they’re a train carrying a mass of people to the station nearest your destination. You have to board the train that’s going in the same direction you want to go, even if it doesn’t take you to the street, or even the town you’re wanting to reach.”#uspol #politics

Something that should theoretically be possible is maintaining separate collections of actors to address content to, and software should be able to handle that.e.g., followers is a collection intrinsically managed by the protocol: Accept(Follow) adds that actor to the collection for your followers. (All follows on the fediverse are really follow requests, no matter what)

Like why can't I create a family collection or a close friends collection & share activities just with those actors through addressing?I can also help remote servers by sending Add and Remove activities to indicate that I've updated those collections. (Maybe it'd be Accept(Add)? Or Undo(Accept(Add))? )

Would of course require activitypub servers to be aware of these additional collections in order to handle delivery correctly, but this feels like something that should exist but doesn't in mainstream fedi software.I think only @bonfire implements this maybe?

Actually, looking closer at @bonfire, I don't think they do use custom collections of actors for addressing like this? I think they're actually maybe unfurling that collection into the addressing fields for the activity itself?

Looks like maybe @silverpill's mitra does use these custom collections for addressing?

If I'm fetching that collection though, who can I see? All members of that collection or just my server's members in that collection? I think the latter would be safer?

Just noticed there's no back-linking from collections to the Actor who owns that collection?#activitypub

@stux did you ever have any chargebacks? I'm curious what their basis is for "risk” — they seem to want to push people to not use them directly but instead use the big platforms.. which is weird.

@andypiper @liaizon @hongminhee the version of JSON-LD Signatures that mastodon supports is old, basically they implemented it, then the spec completely changed. That's why stuff doesn't look right. The question is then: how do you migrate forwards without breaking compatibility with existing deployments. That's gonna need time & money thrown at the problem to solve.
