       US Police are repurposed slave patrols and if they were a military they'd be the third most expensive in the world. We have 4% of the world's population and 20% of the world's prisoners. For profit prisons oppose tenant's rights laws and fund evictions because they increase arrests.

       And the US has the lowest crime clearance rates and the highest wrongful conviction rates in the developed world.The purpose of a system is what it does, and our carceral apparatus doesn't deter or punish crime. It's a for profit industry where racialized people are the product.

       So yes, I want the whole damn thing eliminated. I want the police defunded in favor of healthcare and basic income for all. I want prisons and jails replaced by programs to eliminate poverty and treat addiction without stigma. I want drugs and petty theft and sex work decriminalized.

       And I want evictions and foreclosures and homelessness abolished. I want cops out of schools and free meals and clothes in them. I want a system where we fight crime by making crime unnecessary because everyone has a safe and loving home and a full belly and a great education and a good doctor.

       Please remember that in the US, every time you advocate for something to be made illegal, you are supporting more power being given to the carceral state.And those new laws might be sometimes deployed against the privileged, but they will ALWAYS be weaponized against the vulnerable.

       Gentle reminder that EVERYONE shot by ICE or the police is innocent. Every single one. Cops aren't Judge Dredd. A person is innocent until proven guilty IN A COURT, so until a person is found guilty by a judge or jury, they're innocent. They're ALL innocent.
