       There are other ways to facilitate onboarding (because I think that&#39;s what this is about, not discovery).If you want people to easily get relevant or content as soon as they create an account on the #Fediverse, I think you should focus on #recommendation methods that do not bias your network towards very heterogeneous structures or favor the formation of cliques where all users follow the same people.

       With the new wave of users and @Luca working again on a #Fediverse visualization, this reminded me that I wanted to discuss a brief exploration of the #network I did some months ago.In 2018, some researchers took a screenshot of Mastodon instances, I wanted to check how these evolved after 4 years.I also tried to get a more global picture of the network to see how the different platforms interact.So I&#39;ll talk about how many instances died (and other stuff) in a short thread. ⬇️

       I&#39;ve mentioned many issues, so let&#39;s end this thread with some proposals!By order of importance:1. Keep the officials on the non-corporate Fedi! We need them and their instances2. (Fund/help) work on granular #federation so people can be protected by default and choose when they want something sent to threads.net3. (Fund/help) work on what #Meta cannot provide: people-first tools to curate their feeds (e.g. customizable filters)And to all those who already do, thank you, you&#39;re amazing!
