@BrodieOnLinux The only rouge likes with long runs that I know work are Wall World and Dome keeper, but for those, the difficulty curve makes it hard for you to die because of a mistake early...

@killyourfm @libreoffice Wayland vs X11 is interesting, also running Firefox under Wayland vs XWayland. This might need to be done for both GNOME and KDE.I'm also interested in the power characteristics of window manages, but those seem too niche to ask you to spend your time on them.

@killyourfm Wow, whenever I get close to that usage (my system only has 24GiB of RAM), it's because I wrote a memory leak (or allocated too much memory).

@killyourfm What does marketing and community management entail that uses so much RAM? A bunch of browser tabs? Electron applications?

@killyourfm that doesn't sound right, afaik that shouldn't use that much RAM...Have you tried things like Franz and Ferdium, they are embedded chromium Browsers for things like slack, WhatsApp and discord; electron Apps with a web equivalent, gets you most of 5h3 way to a desktop app without needing multiple instances of electron, and as a bonus, they don't share cookies/information afaik.

@killyourfm I saw it after typing that comment, glad you solved it!My experience with krunner was; I saw a friend using Spotlight on their Mac, thought: I'm sure Linux has something similar, found krunner, it started indexing the whole system, stopped krunner, never used it again. After that I switched to i3 and got used to dmenu then rofi, and realized I just wanted something to search for apps, so I never needed file indexing at all...Only if you keep files organized tho

@BrodieOnLinux general COSMIC desktop questions:- How long were they thinking about it?- What made them pull the trigger?- How are they feeling about the current progress?- Was it as hard as they expected it to be?- What is a cool thing that they can/would like to share about it?

@killyourfm DNS is an amazing hack that should be manipulated only by catgirls, furries, and other otherworldly sysadmin deities. No one else is able to process it with their mind, like Cthulhu and other old gods, it brings madness to whomever dares to see it.

@foone context and with_context should be called wrap_err and wrap_err_with (as they are called in miette which has prettier error messages). They take an error and "wrap" it in another error whose source is the original error, e.g. you can wrap an invalid utf8 error with invalid username to get the error invalid username: string was not utf8.The with variant take a closure/function which generates the error message (in case generating it is expensive i.e. you need to fetch some data)

@foone You can override the function that prints panic messages (see std::panic::update_hook)
