       @jason @kde @ivan @AndrzejL @kungtotte @erikstl @kev @geotechland @DonMcCollough @brejoc @gianf @anik3t @ethan Mx Linux is giving me a nice balance between hands-on operation and "don't worry! We've got a net under you if you fall." I'm hoping this will take me beyond the Ubuntu trap.

       @e4rache Simply answered: Ext attempts to keep data writes to the 'drive' contiguous. As soon as data is deleted, the space will be overwritten to keep data in contiguous sectors. This effort is why deletion of data is 'generally' expressed as being permanently lost. In contrast, (oversimplified) M$ Windows avoids using deleted space until it can't find any unused space to work in. It parcels out sectors of data to wherever those chunks will fit in unused sectors. Fragmentation is inevitable.

       @kemonineI checked out the list of Pleroma instances...in my persuing I get an impression that the list contains mostly small, personal and 'special interest' groups...as well as read up on the diff between it and Mastodon. Hmm. Maybe in time. Right now I don't see anything in Pleroma to interest someone like me (older geek/nerd/tech crowd), those not interested in setting up their own instance. Far cozier and more relevent for me to be here. Just my impression, nothing more being sold.

       @jerry Agreed.I hope not too soon. I don't know how long it will to take for me to achieve the 12th Level of Hermitude. Soon. Maybe.

       @kemonine @noorul KemoNine does tick off points that reflect my situation. But I do agree Noorul, self-hosting is truly the epitome of decentralising. I'm enjoying my elder years as a curmudgeon geek. I'm not as social as I was say five or ten years ago. For me to self-host is an exercise in setting up an instance, nothing more. I prefer to jump aboard someone else's ship, infrequently and as I am in the mood or position. I realize this is not typical behavior of my peers. :)

       Looking for user input on a safe, secure (preferrably open source) on-line bookmarking capability that works in (most) all desktop browsers and android devices. I care less about my bookmarks being public or private than the add-on, plugin, website and/or Play Store app marketing where I go and what I do on visted websites. The TOSes on the popular sites are as bad, if not worse, than Google's and Mozilla's.TIA

       I forgot to mention that syncing between computers and devices is second to the aforementioned.

       @Sir_Boops Ah, the number of times I unintentionally 'floated' the underbelly of my vehicle over packing snow. Rule of thumb: if it's deep, gun it to get through or just don't bother--parking isn't an option.
