@BrodieOnLinux thanks for the shoutout on stardust! There's a lot more going on (like demo videos shown @stardustxr) but the description is just to explain what it is to other devs who could help so it's not the best for a video. You can test Stardust even without a headset using its flatscreen mode, that's how I code it most of the time since the hardware's not quite there yet. If you want to, def reach out to me next time! I could have made the whole thing more presentable if I'd known...

@BrodieOnLinux yea that's definitely the case but even after months there's still new ones, it's a losing battle tbh

@boilingsteam I'm making @stardustxr, a display server/system UI for augmented and virtual reality on Linux that will make it so XR is practical to use and fun :ablobcatbongo:

@mauve @olm_e North Star does have hardware and software actually! XRDesktop is only a 3D desktop, of course it doesn't have hardware :pLynx is very cool, and I will look into putting Linux + Stardust on there but that'll be a while. XR headsets just aren't really ready there, and HoloLens was the farthest along until Android became the dominant mobile XR platform and it all kinda backslid. I hope Stardust can help reverse that trend though!

@mauve Stardust's install process is much easier now, see https://github.com/StardustXR/telescope for scripts that just do it all for you!xrdesktop works on the index. That's basically it. And libsurvive+monado requires a bit of compilation. Luckily, the Index does at least have SLAM support and hand tracking in Monado now so you can just plug only the headset in, but then you can't use it with xrdesktop, only stardust since xrdesktop doesn't support hands.Linux XR is SO CLOSE but just not quite there yet, sorry :(

@mauve We're also working on Andromeda, a plug and play Arch-based ISO containing all the tools and drivers you need to just run headsets right out of the box. https://github.com/StardustXR/andromeda/

@mauve You can! It's just gonna be a bit before they release it.

@BrodieOnLinux @zekjur @marcan I'm making a wayland compositor (stardust) and even I use your channel as a sort of wayland news source because it's that bad of a problem :S

@BrodieOnLinux it's gotten like 10x more usable since you covered it, we have wayland popup support now finally and have got XR-specific portals and such planned out (also a better description for the whole project too when i remember to update the website) and a better roadmap and... yea. Thanks for covering it though, it's actually gotten a lot of people interested and helping contribute!!
