@tiago You mean it is designed for communication and not publicity ? What horror 😮 Corporate is not going to like that.

@leo Any FOSS alternatives? It would be good to have some a collection of links to software that can download and play RSS podcasts. At least for the three major platforms: Linux, Windows, and Apple. I know gpodder works, but it is very clunky.

@tiago The implicit idea is communication over viral replication (meme-forming?). Small networks with sparse and local connectivity (the way mastodon is designed) is an ideal architecture for this. I view networks with larger clique-sizes as being more conducive to advertising, PR etc.

@clive I have two X220s stashed away, and moved to a T480 - an excellent machine marred by the blind adoption of macos style ports. Then I moved to a mac for work - the worst machine (apart from the ARM processor) I have owned by far. I wish I could rip off its processor and install it on a better machine.

@clive The processors are truly phenomenal. But that's about all they have going for them :(

I know vscode is very easy to use, but this is definitely worth reading:https://ghuntley.com/fracture/It's the old "embrace, extend, extinguish". Try open-source alternatives like my emacs-groundup, or vim or what have you. Programming is not meant to be a 'frictionless' experience. Nothing is. Stop buying into this consumer-centric bullshit.#vscode #emacs #vim #friction #frictionless #coding #EmbraceExtendExtinguish #opensource

@clive @CiaraNi I've been nodding my head non-stop for 5 minutes as I read that thread. Pure horror.

@aral I coined the hashtag #UsersAreFodder for this. Because that is the role of users in most modern business plans. They are not customers and have minimum rights.

Hi tooters, I seek some electronics wisdom today. I'm looking for something to cut thin tungsten electrode wires with (done under a microscope). The wirecutters used for electronics quickly develop little grooves and become useless. Is there a better solution which doesn't cost $500 ? Tried the bead-makers' cutters and they are not sharp enough for this. Any ideas ? Tired of ordering random wirecutters that don't work !#electronics #wirecutters #DIY #advice #benchwork

@aral It was when their head honcho negotiated millions of dollars a year in compensation. If a company has a pay scale range going from volunteer to millions of dollars a year their policy decisions will always be in the service of massive profits.

@futurebird I have always found it an infantile teen angsty word and I never use it. The phenomenon is an expected consequence of unregulated unchecked corporate greed. Using childish terms dilutes its seriousness.

A question for emacs users who have a python REPL workflow and use corfu (so a very small, possibly 0-member group). Has anyone been able to get completions to work on the REPL in vterm ? I keep getting: >>> ["0__dummy_completion__", "Path", "1__dummy_completion__"]or much larger walls of text. Makes using the REPL impossible.#emacs #corfu #python #vterm

@tusharhero You guessed wrong. That is not the real question. It is a stupid question. libvterm is a terminal emulator not a shell. Please never comment on my toots again thank you.

@divyaranjan @tusharhero@mathstodon.xyz No. They were rude. I prefer discourse to be precise and respectful. The casual, dismissive and imprecise language used ('guess,' 'literally,' 'real question' etc.) doesn't meet the standard for a discussion I want to invest my time in.
