@wjmaggos I politely disagree with you there. I don't know any creators actively seeking funding who don't have a list of ways you can pay them. Yeah it's usually a middleman service - but no one is saying "I'm not sponsoring Mastodon because Github/Paypal/Patreon is taking a cut."And if donating via those services is "too much work" because it's not bank-to-bank... then they didn't really want to donate after all.

@futurebird Interesting!Something that comes to mind is that they would lack mirrors. And without one I only see myself from the shoulders down.Obviously they would see other people's faces but maybe this is some part of it.

This year's #Lego #Christmas village is finally up. Over 6 hours of work! (We box up the assembled buildings & people so thankfully only a bit of fixing is needed.)My husband has been slowly wiring each house with LED strands.ðð

My husband requested a new big, co-op, dungeon crawl boardgame for Xmas. We finished #Gloomhaven (liked it but too admin-heavy), and we have Sword & Sorcery but are less keen on it.After *much* research I settled on Massive Darkness 2 + its Heavenfall expansion.Played our first game yesterday & it was excellent!!#BoardGames #TableTopGames #MassiveDarkness2

Some initial observations:- I never again want to play games without a tray organizer for my character cards & tokens. Handy!- This game has the nicest minis I've ever seen! ðĪĐ- We found the first scenario quite easy. Hoping the challenge scales up.- Didn't like how support classes don't gain much XP because you only get it for killing MOBS. So we decided to share XP equally.- Love the simplified movement & distance rules. Less per-turn complexity without eliminating melee vs ranged.

Not impressed with today's #NintendoDirect. ðĪ·ââïļ We saw:- Lots of old games remastered.- A few rhythm based games.- A bunch of childish looking games with MIIs or these odd childlike anime style characters. - Bunch of small cozy games.- Restricted effort on sharing digital games. - Even managed to make Metroid Prime look kind of lame. @stux Huge supply of lumber in North America and I think wood frame homes with insulation are easier to heat in the winter.They sure are flammable though. ðŽ

Companies have no clue what they're losing by replacing workers with AI.- AI will never sanity check or push back on company decisions.- AI will never tell managers: "this is confusing" or "customers will hate this".- AI will never innovate new ideas while working on an existing one. - AI will never identify friction for users or biases (in fact it will create them).- AI won't be your first-round testers as something is being built.-AI won't give u free advertising.

This is depressing. Trying to set up wifi/data only cheap phones we bought for the kids for a few situations where we want them to be able to reach us. I figured we wouldn't need a cellphone plan because with data only they could just use a chat app. Been at this for ages & hit nothing but roadblocks. Can't use #Signal without a cellphone number. Can't verify a #Discord account without a phone number. Kids #Messenger keeps logging the kids out & needs parent password.WTF#parenting

I don't want to use YET another #messaging app for our immediate family only. We really only use Signal, Discord & FB Messenger in a limited capacity. I don't want to get cellphone numbers for them yet. And I can't find a data+wifi only way for them to "call" us.I can't even use Google Chat because Google won't let me add an account managed by Family Link onto a device that has another Google account on it. Screw this whole industry. ðĪŽ#parenting

- Don't give your kids cellphones too young.- Don't be a helicopter parent.Please tell me how I give my kids age-appropriate freedom & responsibilities when there just aren't public phones if they have an emergency??At #baseball most parents drop their kids off at practise & leave. Their kids have cellphones if practice ends early or they get hurt, they can call.I hate that being able to contact family is now gated behind a $40/m mobile plan. #parenting

Inspired by @molly0xfff's podcast/article about #RSS.... I've absolutely jumped onto this technology. Set myself up on a reader, and I've rediscovered sites & blogs I used to check regularly but sadly forgot about. Cleaned up the RSS feeds on my own sites & patched in post pictures on the WordPress generated ones.Describing this as a way to create your own custom newspaper is right on. Better than getting stuck on the same few sites all the time. Highly recommend!#WebDev #SocialMedia

A lot of the discourse about #Tailwind has been "How did they even expect to scale anyway?"l know our industry doesn't understand this, but not everything has to "scale". Keeping a small team comfortably employed, working on something they enjoy with people they like _is_ a success story.A business isn't a failure if it isn't growing.#WebDev #Business

My company, Avinus, has had 1 employee (me) for 15+ years. Sometimes it was a side-hustle. Now it fills as many hours of enjoyable work as I want. I do projects I'm interested in, for cool customers doing awesome things. It gives my family the extra income we need with the flexibility that lets me be the kind of parent I want to be.It's a (my) success story.Stop acting like a company that isn't growing rapidly is already in the grave.
