       Hier im südostbayerischen Outback kommen die Kupferdoppeladern mit dem Internet drin noch oberirdisch per Holzmasten. Speziell bei uns durch den Wald. Und wie es aussieht, ist da gestern bei dem starken Schneefall ein Baum drauf gefallen und hat das Kabel gerissen. Techniker ist informiert und nuschelte was von 3-4 Wochen ins Hotline-Telefon, und er könne uns solange was mit LTE. Ob er denn auch die notwendige Basisstation dazu könne, wollte ich wissen? Andächtige Stille.

       @oneiros @tschaefer Ich habe einen alten MiFi-Router aktiviert, der in einer Ecke eines bestimmten Fensters so halbwegs brauchbares 4G bekommt. Alles, was Text ist, ist darüber gut möglich. Für Bewegtbild reicht es nicht. Doof, wenn man 100% Home Office hat und der Arbeitstag zu 50% aus  Videokonferenzen besteht. Auch Telefoneinwahl ist nicht möglich, weil ich in der Wohnung keinen Mobilfunkempfang habe. Nur ein bisschen an den Fenstern im Kniestock. Und ohne DSL natürlich auch kein Festnetz.

       @tschaefer @oneiros Ja, natürlich. Probiert. Zuletzt vor vier oder fünf Wochen. In der Wohnung und mit dem Telefon in der Hand um den Hof gelaufen. Existiert in dieser Zelle nicht. Ich müsste dazu einen knappen Kilometer vor an die Hauptstraße gehen. Südostbayerisches Outback im Grenzstreifen zu Österreich auf einem etwas abgelegenen, ehemaligen Bauernhof. Landschaftlich sehr idyllisch. Kommunikationstechnisch allerdings anspruchsvoll 🙂

       Na schau, da hat doch die Presse wieder Futter für die nächsten anderthalb Wochen: schlechtestes PISA-Ergebnis in Deutschland ever.Leider wird das ganze Lamentieren auch dieses Mal den Schülern nichts bringen.

       There is an old Samsung NC-10 netbook lying around in my “hardware archive”. The Intel Atom CPU in there is 32bit only, which somehow limits which operating system to choose. I decided to give Haiku a try, and it runs quite fast and smoothly on the device. Several years back, I installed a SSD into the NC-10, which might be at least part of the reason. #haiku #vintagecomputing #retrocomputing #nc10

       @hanshuebner @vcfe Das Foto ist aus meinem Fundus und ich habe gerade mal nachgesehen. Leider existiert weder eine bessere Qualität noch eine Detailaufnahme der Platine. Es sind auch keine Exif-Daten im Bild. Dem Dateinamen nach könnte das ein Handy-Foto sein, und da war die Auflösung/Qualität in 2006 noch eher mäßig. Leider.

       Vintage computing people: what are important English language magazines of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, which wrote about professional computers and professional computer use. I know of course BYTE Magazine, and there were several UNIX periodicals. But where could I read about Cray, Univac, Amdahl, Data General, IBM Mainframes and such? #vintagecomputing #retrocomputing

       @bortzmeyer @jpmens No, sorry, for the moment they will all stay here (and maybe get some more relatives on board over time). Someday in 10+ years I'll maybe show them as "some of the very first RISC-V devices in the market" at vintage computing festivals and gatherings 😇

       This was one of the very first ZFS demos I've seen at some sales engineers training by Sun Microsystems Germany (Sun and Sun partner engineers), probably sometimes in 2005. Demo was to export the pool, unplug and scramble the thumb drives, plug all drives back in and import the pool. #vintagecomputing #zfs

       Heute das handschriftliche Kochbuch meiner Oma (1906-1958) gescannt. Sie lebte bis kurz nach Ende des 2. Weltkriegs in einer Gegend, die damals Mähren hieß, bei den Nazis Sudetendeutschland genannt wurde, und heute im Nordosten der Tschechischen Republik liegt. Das Kochbuch ist voll mit Mengenangaben in Dekagramm und in Sütterlin geschrieben.
