@Ricardus Well, I may just crack one and find out what the drop is on a single LED. Will report what I learn.

@Ricardus I'm so in agreement with this. Yet no place that caps wealth ever seems to solve the problem.Best I can think of is places like Sweden, where there is no cap on wealth, but there is a floor on poverty. I wonder how much the success of their policies depends on their culture. I doubt that enough Americans could support them to make them work here. (Nor Canadians, I reckon.)Worst are places like North Korea, where (surprise!) the government decides it needs all the wealth itself.

@Ricardus Not only do they do that, our modern microwave beeps at us if we've the door closed.

@Ricardus Indeed. It gets quite insistent about it, too. After the timer reaches zero, it beeps to let you know your food is ready. About 20 seconds later, it beeps again, Then again. I don't know if or when it finally gives up because it sounds so demanding we never get past two follow-up reminders from it.

@Ricardus Hey, thanks for sharing that. Is the Wise card reloadable? Where did you get it?

@Ricardus Be straight with me. Do you make your merfins from scratch, or a mix? (TBH, we use "Jiffy," which is really pretty good.)

@Ricardus Quite the vintage year, then, eh?My dad suggested it to me. He was not a fan of sf, himself. But he had heard of it somehow and kind of passingly said, "I'd expect you to like this 'Trek' thing that's coming up." I was a month shy of being eight years old.Never became a "Trekkie," nor really even a "Trekker." But I did love that show and will still watch a TOS rerun from time to time. All so-called Trek since TOS is crud, mostly.

@Ricardus It did make you feel connected to something. I'd say following the right Twitch streams can be similar. One odd effect it had: my friends who also liked it and I started saying to each other "I wish I hadn't been born yet." The metaphysics of that still make me take pause.

@Ricardus I think there is a place for the small podcaster. I follow zero casts/streams with large numbers of followers. My preference is to follow those with smaller counts. They tend to be more authentic, interesting, and able to interact with me. Also, what interests me tends to be way off the main line. I'm glad there are people creating the content I like. The big boys (and girls) will never do that for me.

@Ricardus Oh, sorry, can't help you there. I watched most of DS9 (stopped after the second Dax arrived). Vaguely remember that ep. IIRC, it was yet another heavy-handed attempt to turn an ideological building block into an entire social structure. DS9 seemed to love doing that. I found it bore-ring. Pretty much all Trek since TOS has been boring. SNW is the best so far.Ah, how the mighty have fallen.

@Ricardus I have always wondered about that myself. My final answer: it was to make us wonder about it.

@Ricardus I always though "Lost in Space" was drivel. However, I saw an interview with Mark Goddard made long after the series was concluded. He also stated he felt it had been pretty silly, but that some of the stories during the show's first season "were actually science fiction." He earned a place of respect in my heart with that remark.Rest in Possibilities

@Ricardus Heh, 8- or 9-year-old me found 14- or 15-year-old Penny oddly beguiling in a way I would not really understand for a few more years. But, that was also the same time in my life when I discovered science fiction, and how it was different from fairy tales and ghost stories. Once I knew what sf really was, Lost in Space never interested me again.

@Ricardus Oh, yeah. I did love the robot. Pissed me off that the actor never got a credit for it. Still does, in fact.
