@heidilifeldman Harris appears to be a strong, well informed, ethical, well intentioned and pragmatic leader. It would be hard to find someone better in all those qualities. Trump has none of those qualities. None!

@pallsopp42 @copter_chief Not going after Trump in 2021 was Garland's most monumental mistake.

@futurebird My goodness it was so long ago when I was teaching some CS -- maybe 40 years ago. I remember once trying on a test to lay out some facts in no particular order, than asking the students to arrange those facts in an order conducive to producing a solution -- using pseudo code. Some couldn't produce a functional order, helping me realize why programming was going to be so challenging to them.

@bmacDonald94 I know that war cost too many lives, too many life altering injuries, and for me personally altered my career intentions in a way I couldn't correct. But aspects of our society changed from that war, at least for a few decades. So still, the lives were lost in a misguided war, but society did what they could to make them count for something.

@lovelylovely Author and orator Fran Lebowitz commented similarly on Trump. Lebowitz thinks the biggest danger of Trump is that he is a moron. “Everyone says he is crazy – which maybe he is – but the scarier thing about him is that he is stupid. You do not know anyone as stupid as Donald Trump. You just don’t.”

@Ruth_Mottram @vkc @kde Linux has a lot of image and video libraries and apps. I've used some of them a lot to take and process lunar and planetary images like the one below of the #plato Crater region. A Linux app operated the video camera that took the images, a Linux app stripped out the frames for processing, a Linux program that I wrote aligned and stacked the frames, and a Linux app provideed the tools to sharpen the resulting image.

@johnmacintosh I vaguely remember that style of gas pump. A gravity feed from a glass cylinder that like a kitchen measure had marks on it. A hand pump would pump fuel into the chamber to the desired mark (in gallons), and gravity would drain it into your car tank. The grain elevator my father ran had one for awhile before it was replaced with an electric pump model. Early 1950s I think.

@futurebird That sounds reasonable. I've not a lot of writing experience. A problem I encountered once was that while I had primarily a single plot line, I was telling the story through characters. Some scenes didn't have my main character in them, so I decided to kind of prioritize characters. If the main character was in a scene he/she was the point of view character. If not, the 2nd priority character , (if in the scene) was the point of view character. I think I only went 3 deep. I never really discussed that idea with a more experienced writer.
