@futurebird to study physics you need to train your mind to hold concepts that aren't necessarily intuitive. It takes loads of practice, just like learning to play the piano and read musical notation. It's hard. You don't get endorphins like you do when you practice exercise. Subscripts, superscripts, brackets, derivatives, integrals, vectors, tensors and more. It takes a lot of dedication to train your mind to hold all those abstract thoughts in a meaningful way. That might be why it's called hard science. It's not just Algebra and Calculus though. It's also about *measuring* stuff, which is the part that makes it not magical. Without measurement, theory is just ideas, which can take any form whatsoever. The fact that abstract ideas can be used to predict stuff that happens in the real world is what grounds physics in reality. #physics

There must be some wholesale cognitive dissonance going down for his supporters to ignore what is in plain sight for the rest of us. But it’s not the sole domain of maga. I tuned in to the local 2m group last night in Moorabbin using #gnuSDR and a cheap rtl2832 dongle. The repeater is 2.7km away in a straight line. In the photo you can see the antenna perched to obtain line of sight to the repeater. I created the SDR receiver using a basic FM setup using 8kHz deviation and 50dB of RF gain and with a FFT display to look nice (the photo does not show the carrier active). I logged 8 or 9 call signs. #AmatuerRadio #MDRC

@KatyElphinstone its not really a question, more of a subject area. Statistical Mechanics is the area of physics where the property of entropy is addressed. The word statistical refers to systems with large number of particles in various states, each such collection of particles and energy is called a partition. Entropy is a measure of the most likely partition, and the units are Joules per Kelvin. So a higher entropy system stores more energy per degree increase in temperature than a lower entropy one. The second law says that the most probable processes that may occur in an isolated system are those in which the entropy either increases or remains constant. One example being the diffusion of a drop of ink in a glass of water. In that case the most probable arrangement of ink molecules in the glass is to be evenly distributed through the water. You would never observe the ink suddenly coalescing back into a drop.
