@Elaines2cents @FernandoIV I believe Putin was elected in free elections in 2000 and 2004. In 2004 he received 70% of the vote. I remember from TV interviews with random people in the street in 2000, most of them said that Russia needed a strong man.

@darulharb It takes years before a rate hike actually impacts the money supply. What are they gonna do when inflation is still rampant in 6 months? He doesn't seem to understand that it's not a quick fix. More rate hikes like Bernanke did, then a foreclossure epidemic and massive unemployment? Answer: Yes that is exactly what they are gonna do. it's what they always do, every 16 years. You can set your clock to it.
