#introduction Hi all! I've spent the last decade in the #translation biz and doing a little bit of #writing on the side, but I'd prefer for it to be the other way round. So I'm shifting priorities and, while we're at it, switching platforms as well. Hope to find a new #writingcommunity here (just in time for #NaNoWriMo), ideally with some #screenwriting chatter thrown into the mix.And just so you know: If you enjoy pineapple on pizza, we can never be friends. 😜

@Elise Hi! I have book 1 in a thriller series that I want to start drafting (outline is already giving me side-eye because it's been sitting on my desk for too long) but also a screenplay I need to finish. I'll probably set an hourly daily goal instead of the 50k target so I can work on both projects.

@grammargirl Wow, what a ridiculous decision! The intention of the question is clear. And so is his answer – unless there is another Shakespeare play with two characters called Beatrice and Benedict. Is there?

@grammargirl This reminds me of college (ESL speaker here). There were a lot of stories about Winnie who went to work on Wednesday and Victor visiting Vladivostok... 😁

@clive I'm hoping (naively maybe?) that this is the beginning of the end of Google's dominance in this sphere. So much trash is put online with the sole goal of getting onto Google's 1st results page, and so much money is being wasted with the SEO snake oil industry – it's time to send it all to digital hell!

@grammargirl As a translator/editor who regularly deals with this, I hope we'll find a better solution for German. A key problem is that you also have to use the star in all adjectives and articles associated with those nouns, e.g. "staatlich geprüfte*r Techniker*in " ("state-certified technician") or "Anschrift des*der Absolvent*in" (the graduate's address). This makes many texts a pain to read, they can't be easily read aloud either, and it's definitely not an option for fiction. 😩
