@jk just to be sure, you want something that *only* does what you're asking for, even if the other features don't have to be used?

@jk it would probably take longer to write than the time you'd save over your lifespan, unless you include ongoing anguish from lacking such an app

@a_breakin_glass according to the internet, people tend to walk ~3-4 mph. that's a mile every 15-20 minutes. of course some people will walk slower or they might not be walking

@fitheach good question! i just installed it and have two quick impressions: one is that it allowed itself to get killed while downloading the world map when i switched to another app briefly, which is an avoidable thing, so that's not a great sign from a coding standpoint, and another is that some of the settings will only show you their description until you *set* them, at which point their description changes to the setting you chose, and then it appears you can never see their description again, so that's a pretty significant ui/ux issue. i'll have to actually try it for navigation or something to see how that goes

@fitheach i use osmand regularly and it's great, imo. it's suitable for almost all of my map and navigation needs (note: i walk everywhere, but i've used it to help navigate when someone else is driving and it's adequate). honestly the biggest upsides for me are that it's offline and that it's easier to find bathrooms and drinking water than google maps. downsides are that the UI is not the most intuitive for anything beyond the absolute basics, but that just means it takes a little bit more time to figure things out than with, e.g., google maps. the TTS is also sometimes more verbose than you'd like during navigation, or it won't give you a ton of time to switch lanes before exiting a freeway, but these are common app problems.openstreetmap is occasionally missing obvious POIs, even large department or grocery stores, depending on your neighborhood. i tend to find them on google maps and add them manually. (you can contribute back to openstreepmap as well but i haven't figured it out yet.)

did you know you can use ublock origin filters to hide unwanted channels from youtube, even without being signed in?for example, if you want to hide all MrBeast videos, just open up the ublock origin dashboard, go to "my filters," and add this:www.youtube.com##ytd-compact-video-renderer, ytd-rich-item-renderer, ytd-video-renderer, ytd-channel-renderer, .ytp-suggestion-set:has(.ytp-videowall-still-info-author, .ytd-channel-name:has-text(/^(MrBeast|Beast Reacts)($| •)/))it may not be perfect because i wrote it myself. ymmv

an app that doesn't exist, but maybe should?wirebard. instead of scanning a qr code for your wireguard configuration, wirebard sings it in a special melody that your device can understand
