I had a weird dream last night. I dreamt it was the year 2027, and JD Vance was President. Apparently Trump died in office from some disease and Dems had rejoiced, but then it became simply continued business as usual under Vance. Not sure what it means, but it was a very colorful and vivid dream. Anyway, posting it online so I can possibly say I told you so in the future (I guess). I've had a few vivid ones that actually came true, but usually involve extremely mundane things not worth "reporting". Still quite strange.#politics #dream #strange

Well the good news is that the city is finally fixing the water leak from next to the fire hydrant at the end of the street as it has been leaking for two weeks. The bad news is that the water is shut off for the whole block for 4-8 hours today. So that begs the philosophical question of which of the two bathrooms is designated for #1 and which is for #2? Also, highly recommended not to come over for a visit today and if so avoid the bathroom in the main bedroom for at least 4-8 hours.

I have strange things happen to me. They don't seem to mean anything, and are often filled with coincidences or repeat occurrences. While I wish it was something like winning the lottery twice in a row, it is usually rather mundane. Here is one such tail of me trying to drive my car somewhere and I keep running into Taylor Swift.https://www.markloveless.net/blog/2025/12/12/swift-strangeness#Strange #taylorswift

Acronyms are interesting. For ICE, there are two - there is the main one making the news involving immigration and the one I was used to for a long time before, the Internal Combustion Engine acronym which has been used heavily in EV discussions on forums and discord channels I am in.Oddly, both are bad for the environment. Weird coincidence.#ice #ev #green

This shopping season basically clenched it - Amazon sucks. It used to be useful for finding certain things. Then it seemed to abuse vendors more and more, so I began to use it more as a search engine to discover vendors which I would then contact directly on their own websites, and purchase there. At this point, the "Temu effect" has kicked in on Amazon and most of the vendors are Chinese knock-offs and rip-offs of other products - and the search results are limited to the same crap over and over. Enshittification indeed. At this point I only keep Amazon because a few vendors whose consumable products I like are *only* available via Amazon - in fact the vendor website links to their Amazon store instead of their own warehouse - so I still make use of it. But that's it. Ugh as in ugly.#consumerism #amazon #enshittification

@sjvn Working at a company with employees all over the planet this is something I see whenever an "offsite" is planned. And I have friends that are US citizens that are seriously questioning whether they should travel out of the country, in part for how they might be treated abroad, but also simply getting back home - especially if they are non-white. Sad. Really sad.

I don't expect 2026 to be better. However I don't expect it to be worse either. I expect significant social and political changes over the next 18 months, and it will be strange. Very strange. But the main feeling will be "Huh. I did NOT expect THAT."#newyear #sociology #uspol

This is a picture I came across quite randomly yesterday. It is a 1965 Dodge Dart. My grandmother had one (also powder blue) which my Dad ended up with, and he sold it to me for $90USD right before my 16th birthday. For perspective that is like $500USD in today’s money. I drove it to my first day of my first real job (fast food) on that birthday. Considering my previous job was mowing lawns for $2USD each, this was a serious investment.

@wendynather Interesting story. I grew up in Tulsa Oklahoma, which was one of the first markets. I think it was Tulsa and New York, with the idea that if it worked in Tulsa it could work anywhere. Market analysts hung out at local record stores and interviewed people leaving, asking what inspired the purchase, found out it was MTV, and that was that. I know this because I was one of those interviewed leaving a music store with a couple of albums inspired by videos. It should be noted that there were not a ton of videos back then so it was heavy repeats until it caught on.

@CuriousMatter I have a foot in both worlds, simply so I know about them. The more I explore the "smart" world, the more dedicated I am to doing things like self-hosting, finding repairable tech, and running open source. Making sure anything "smart" in my house can be connected to #homeassistant is quite important.

Infosec people are generally creative and adaptive people. I recommend #infosec folks that are so vehemently denying AI to basically face the facts that they are going to have to learn all about it regardless - learn the good it can do AND certainly all the horridness of bad stuff. Either way we need to fix things, be they AI-related or not. And knowing what good it can do can help us understand why the non-Infosec users are so willing to adopt it so blindly and quickly.#security #ai

Part of my between meetings errands involved a quick stop and the grocery store. With the winter blast this weekend reaching all of the way into Texas, stocked up on a few things although I had most everything.Interesting in that some other Texans are also preparing...https://www.kvue.com/article/news/local/texas/ted-cruz-flying-california-winter-storm/269-adf41556-8b13-4a4f-9454-19687d3191acHe says he'll be back before the weekend. Sure, now that the press is out about it.

I absolutely love sitting down working at a computer during the cyber thing on an overcast cold day inside a warm house with a hot mug of tea, looking outside through a window at snow-covered ground - although in my case today it is sleet-covered, but still very white.Still hate being outside in this weather though. But it reminds this Texan of growing up in Oklahoma where we actually experienced regular snowy weather in the winter.#allremote #workfromhome #securitea #infosec

Latest blog post: Monitoring My Solar Panels' Health. As I can get to all the data, I wrote some code to query said data, but it wasn't easy because math meets real world (and API) limitations.https://www.markloveless.net/blog/2026/1/27/monitoring-solar-panels#solar #solarpunk #green #greenenergy
