@tomjennings @Sophie definitely not my expertise, but while reading the thread I was thinking that with with a small servo at the end of a beefy hour hand, the whole thing would work, if you accept that it needs to be "detangled" once per day. I'm super curious about a solution with cogs that needs no wires...Does anyone know of a simple cog simulator?

@volpeon I usually defend people accused of hypocrisy when they change their mind....it's harder when it's changed for the worse 😞That mastodon.social is still open + the joke that is the "official app" are really problematic.

Caps: inspected and clearedPower Supply: inspected and clearedFor the first time in this decade, I fired up my #commodore64 I'm now in search of a microproject for it. I want to either build or buy a wifi modem (based on an ESP), find and load a terminal application and get online for the first time, even if just for fun, with this 36 years old gentleman, to whom I owe my career, and to a large degree, my life and lifestyle.#retrocomputing

@SDF @MrToyMRY does full text search work on social.sdf.org which is on 4.2.0? I couldn't get it to work, all my searches return no results.

@paradroyd the "download instead of using the cd" part is surprisingly modern.

@simon @stefan @reconbot if they lose interest, why would it have to stay around forever? Outside of things like the internet archive.I understand there's value in persistence, even of abandoned content, but...I'm thinking out loud, I don't know how I feel about this. With physical media the cost of preservation is lower, but effective discovery needs an archive and a librarian. It's still not automatic. Publishing online for eternity requires maintenance or a trusted archive.

@Ricardus in Lower Decks they often show that they queue for it, with the next booking showing up early. My Canon explanation in TNG is that the top brass gets preemptive priority, kicking out the little ensign simulating jet ski on Risa to simulate the inner working of the warp engine.Or, you know, play Sherlock Holmes.
