@subnetspider@bsd.cafe I think all of the hardware I have looked at is Intel 1226 but I made a note of that, thank you for the info, it helps. I only buy 2.5Gb NIC so that everything can run at full speed without overhead

@bt@bsd.cafe I've been trying to work through how to setup a router so I appreciate this. I've posted on here problems I'v had, to no success, I've exchanged messages for weeks trying to get OpenBSD to work as a router, so your article is helpful. A couple of OpenBSD names stopped replying when their suggestions did not work or did not solve the issues.

@tealeg@mastodon.online Mastodon having European bias is no surprise because it seems that Mastodon has an extreme push for conformity and compliance that doean't exist in the rest of the world outside of totalitarian states. Everything flows in one direction. It seems that mastodon does not allow views to be challenged and statements from admins to be proven false. For example, in my country there is legal protection to publicly insult politicians and judges and protection to harass politicians since they are public figures but it's a criminal offense to threaten them but it seems Europe, and by extension, mastodon protects one view to the point that mastodon protects hypocrisy if it is of the approved opinion and bans everything that is against that narrative, that's why public debate is banned

@mjack@bsd.cafe That all seems fine for Plasma. Have you found anything in the configuration not working that you would like to work? I only use Plasma on all ayatems and have SDDM configured for autologin so when I turn on computer it boots to Plasma desktop. Have you added yourself to group _shutdown so you can use menu to reboot and shutdown?

@tealeg@mastodon.online My original point was about how Mastodon rules seems to be about protecting how fragile and delicate people are like it seems to be in Europe where contrary views are not allowed but in my country people can insult you to your face and nothing can be done, including insulting politicians in public, the police can't stop public mockery and insults, meaning there's no legal protection from hurt feelings. But on here it seems that mastodon only allows one set of views and bans users who are critical of said views, admins delete posts of anyone who points out fallacies of the protected opinions, so the rules here all flow in one direction and restrict or delete those that go against the narrative. It seems similarily people in Europe are delicate and fragile to the point of banning personal criticism as if they are 8 years old needing to be protact from bad words

You say it's about protecting margalized groups yet it's free reign on mastodon to call for killing conservatives, talk about executing Trump, posts about Israel had the slaughter coming to them, and it's morally justified to kill Jews to protect others and went those posts are reported the admin says there is no violation, but criticize someone'identity, get banned

@jaredj@bsd.cafe Using any BSD is a better choice than Linux. I believe that since IBM bought Red Hat they have wrecked it. Once a person becomes skilled enough to administor a FreeBSD server, they can do a lot more with it than any Linux system

It's constantly noticable how mastodon is fully cut off from the real world. Find any kind of public figure in media or content creator that knows nothing about tech who uses mastodon, they don't exist

The mastadon covenant enforces the cult or have server cut off. Decentralized social media is the answer that has no admins to create accounts.
