@getimiskon @imposter Pretty big fail since their secondary topic was about decentralisation and federation. I wonder who came up with "Mastodon hour".At least they said they'd rethink it.

@waltercool Welcome to french class! We have:• gendered everything (we flip a coin everytime we create a noun to know which)• if for any reason you can't tell the gender then use male pronouns (yes, that group of 1 guy and 42 girls is CLEARLY male)• 30+ ways to spell a single verb depending on pronouns, time, and other shit• è, ê, ai, and ei all make the same sound (e does it too, if it's followed by a double consonnant (except when it doesn't))• more to discover for yourself!

@Mirk0dex I learned about Linux in a university course, when we had to learn bash.I later learned about GNU and the free software movement when I got curious why there was a "Linux vs GNU/Linux" debate.

@redstarfish I'd say it depends on if they're going to be using extra python modules later. At our school, almost everybody who was using windows ended up having trouble with package management (most of them had to switch to the school computers, which were running Debian GNU/Linux). There wasn't any technical problem before that.

@redstarfish But if you want security, you should use double-rot13!

@redstarfish To celebrate, make sure to hang an extra apple on your tree, preferably in such a way that it'll fall on someone while opening presents.

@codewiz As a young tech person, who remembers not knowing much about tech a few years ago, I can confirm that the choice of words does make a difference."Artificial Intelligence" and "Machine Learning" may mean the same thing to a tech person (in the right context), but to someone who's not into tech, the former often means "computer as intelligent as a human", while the later is a technical term that they're more likely to lookup.

@codewiz You seem to have understood the exact opposite of what I said. The terms used make a difference *to non-techies*, becauae they don't really know their definitions, and their understanding is based on the literal meaning of the words, and the context they see them in.For instance, to non-tech people, "Open Source" means "you can access the source" (literal meaning) or "any programer can contribute" (usual context), but not "you can tweak it and share it"

@codewiz In the cass of "GNU/Linux" and "Linux", tech people know what they refer to (depending on context, in the case of Linux), but less informed people won't be able to learn about GNU (and often, by extension, the free software philosophy) if you don't ever mention it (by the way, I'm speaking from personal experience, here). One way or another, even if 2 terms "mean" the same thing, they're going to give people different inpressions of what they mean.
