A fun example of the comedian Yuriko Kotani on stage. She blends Japanese and British observations into accessible humor. https://youtu.be/DN8VOak84fQ

@ghost_bird I spent some time recently going through some key websites for the American alt-right. The comments were...enlightening. Self-contained hateful ideologies in echo-chambers precluded on the ridicule and violent reaction towards measured critical discourse.

@cubicgarden the US prison system will undoubtedly become an important historical case study of systemic violent control. It would be hard, in combination with education and employment discrimination, to imagine a more successful method of repression and a more powerful cycle of inevitable disenfranchisement.

@ghost_bird perhaps a weird conflation of a desire of dominance writ large in an imagined Hobbesian society with a dash of xenophobia, with the latter literally being the fear of any other. Rage. Aggression. Hubris. Fragility.

@ghost_bird the choice between brutality inside narrow confines or chaos outside the gates. A duality to the exclusion of any nuance or exception.

@ghost_bird in Japan our supply chain is finally fixed and prices are rapidly dropping to pre-COVID levels. China has been churning out exports for about three months. I think the supply has overtaken demand.

Hedgehog died a couple of weeks ago and was buried in a mixture of Japanese and Irish styles under an olive tree. I like the idea of covering the dead in flowers from the Japanese ritual side of things.

I heard from an acquaintance in Ireland that she is required to see a psychiatrist to obtain a prescription for her hormone replacement therapy. Is this a normal thing in other countries? It appears to be a condescending and cruel suggestion that being Trans is a mental disease. Gross.

“In her 2016 book Terror, Love, and Brainwashing, Stein outlines [.] characteristics that define high-control organizations: a totalizing belief system that hinges on good-versus-bad, us-versus-them thinking; thought-stopping buzzwords that gloss over complex realities; members who become increasingly isolated [.]; the belief that any single person holds the answer to all of the questions of existence — and on that basis, has the right to dictate every aspect of yours.”https://onezero.medium.com/inside-the-social-media-cult-that-convinces-young-people-to-give-up-everything-f3878fbec632

@lunar depression and anxiety appear to be part of the human condition. 18.1% of the US population have anxiety issues and only 36.9% receive treatment. Meanwhile, 6.7% adults in the USA have at least one major depressive episode in a given year. I would be hesitant linking these conditions as inherent to being trans as opposed to the social effects of being trans. Regardless, 78.5% depression or anxiety rate is very high..https://adaa.org/about-adaa/press-room/facts-statisticshttps://www.healthline.com/health/depression/facts-statistics-infographic#1https://www.usnews.com/news/health-news/articles/2020-04-10/transgender-teens-have-high-rates-of-depression-suicidal-thoughts
