@TechConnectify I saw some futuristic sink designs once, but the manufacturer went bankrupt and all their R&D went down the drain.

@EU_Commission To everybody replying to this post, make sure you also fill out the survey. It's open to individual EU nationals as well as organizations. It's only a few questions and won't take more than 5-10min to fill out.The EC is probably not going to read Mastodon comments, but somebody there will read the survey responses.

I moved all my notes from Notion to #Emacs #OrgMode. The thing that pushed me over the edge was that, instead of fixing their slow web ui, they started releasing "AI" text generation features. Is org-mode good? Not particularly, but with 34 lines of elisp customization, it's good-enough for me. And it's fast. OMG, it's so fast compared to web apps.I also tried a few other "note taking" apps, but they seem to be universally bad at text editing.

@dekkzz76 It's just not good. I realize that this is not actionable, but it's the best way I can put it.It's a collection of functions that do stuff. This is great if you want to spend a lot of time building something for yourself, but it's pretty bad if you just want to write down some notes. For me specifically, the blocker was the lack of search and navigation usable out of the box. It took me hours to make something useful out of org-agenda, counsel-rg, and project-find-file.

I just realized The Pragmatic Programmer book from 20 years ago had something to say about #chatgpt writing code."Don't Use Wizard Code You Don't Understand"Now the book was talking about wizards that generate UI code, but LLMs are a bit like the Wizard of Oz and they can generate lots of code, so I'd say the advice still applies.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pragmatic_Programmer

Thinking some more about #ChatGPT, I remembered I read a book that talked about this in the context of first-contact.In Blindsight by Peter Watts, the humans encounter the alien entity and are surprised that it speaks perfect English. After a while, their linguist concludes that what they're talking to is really a LM trained on the comms chatter in the Solar System. The book is generally very good #scifi and is available for free on the author's website.https://www.rifters.com/real/Blindsight.htm#reading

@phoronix For those who actually want to save webpages for offline viewing, might I recommend Zotero and its Firefox extension?https://www.zotero.org/They advertise themselves as a bibliography tool that you can use when researching a paper which can then export a BibTeX file. But it works great as long-term document storage and the documents can be webpages too.
