@Trilobyter @NorCal_Lynne Lynne's boost of Trilobyter's sunset hummer inspired me to get outside this evening. There is a front coming in and the light was perfect, bright but slightly overcast. While my husband cooked dinner, I lurked by the elderberry shrubtree and was able to capture this female Anna's. We always have a few resident Anna's, but right now many migrants are passing through, and this individual is probably headed farther south in CA. #photography #birds #nature #NevadaCountyCA

Today, while I was spreading my neighbor's oak leaves in my gardens (great mulch and wildlife habitat), a very tattered California Sister #butterfly landed, for a moment, right on a sunny patch of leaves at my feet. Sisters require oaks for their caterpillar offspring. I made this pic of a CA Sister in late Sept. #NevadaCountyCA #Igardenforwildlife #leavetheleaves #gardening #nativeplants https://xerces.org/leave-the-leaves

Friends: Your tech advice needed re external drives for photo storage.I'm on an older iMac w USB and Thunderbolt ports. I've got about 20 TB of CR2 and JPG originals and backups stored on external drives that are 1-10 years old. Seagate, WD, Toshiba, LaCie (no brand loyalty here lol). The files usually just sit there. A drive might not be used for months. Only my Mac backup drive, a 1-year-old Seagate 5TB, is active daily.CyberMonday seems like a good time to transfer them all to new media. What specific products do you recommend? HDD or SSD? 1/2#photography

2/2 Have seen some discussions of SSD problems (though I suspect those are drives that are actually being used, rather than just sitting on the shelf). Thanks. Boosts to tech, photo instances appreciated.I do see this recent review from PC World; any agree/disagrees? https://www.pcworld.com/article/406861/best-external-drives.htmlListening Fox pic for attention; photo was made in Yellowstone in 2014 and re-edited today w AI software

More reason to Leave the Leaves. These fun-shaped growths on oak leaves are the nests of tiny insects called gall wasps. The wasps don't sting and the growths probably don't harm the tree (research continuing). The wasp larvae overwinter in the galls on the ground and emerge blinking into the spring sunlight (just like us). These teeny insects are a valuable food source for other animals, and if we rake up our leaves and throw them away, all those bug energy packets are lost from our garden's food web.#leavetheleaves #gardening #bloomscrolling #NevadaCountyCA #insects
