My partner has two (!!) best friends who frequently use #chatGPT. Not only do they use it, they use it as an oracle, a diviner, a settler of arguments between friends, a therapist for their children, a spiritual adviser. Scary, scary stuff. They both feel personally attacked when she shares facts about the ownership, ecosystem, environmental and mental impacts, etc surrounding #llms. Please, if you have any resources that might be helpful to them, or to my partner in attempting to #help them, please share.

One of my favourite features of the #fediverse is seeing people *learning things*. There are so many folks here discovering dying arts and trades. People learning how the things we take for granted work, and endeavouring to implement them themselves!People getting their #HAMradio licenses, #selfhosting, making clothing, blacksmithing, gardening, repairing their own things, backporting modern software to run on windows 3.11... Y'all are my people. Never stop learning, and never stop sharing what you've learned.

There's a reason I've been recommending folks reliant on #Signal to familiarise themselves with #jabber (or #xmpp if you like).Signal relies on one of the companies they aim to protect us from: amazon. If amazon goes down, so to does Signal. Is that bad? Yes. Yes it is. It is very bad. You just had the faintest hint of a whiff of what that means today. Jabber, on the other hand, is a #SelfHostable decentralised service that has been in continuous use and development since the 90s. With my jabber server (#Prosody) and my #android client (#Conversations), my friends and family and I do everything we can do on Signal - text, quote reply, search, send media and files, voice and video chat... and it's all #e2ee end-to-end-encrypted, running on hardware and software we have total control over. Go explore the world of options with Jabber!

Up until a few years ago, I was just like you - I hated #systemd because it wasn't SysV.This all changed over ONE day, when I decided fighting against systemd by attempting to ignore it and do everything the way I knew how was not working. I read the effing manual. I quickly learned how it's supposed to be used. I started writing and modifying units. I created my own targets for groups of services. I fell in love. I'm not saying systemd will be right for you, but I am saying I was wrong about it.

@tuxicoman What happens for me is that it opens a page recommending downloads of conversations and one or two other clients. These will link to the Google play store. I don't have Play so I can't test what happens. However, underneath the list of clients is a "register manually" link, which the user can click & register. It's not exactly ideal, but it's something.
